Roads

Post by panzergator »

Has anybody tried using Flex-Seal for paved roads on their terrain?

Any chance of a pic of this Flex-Seal stuff so I know what you are referring too?

It's an American product. Not sure it's available outside the US. The company has been slammed by the US Better Business Bureau. Basically a spray on rubber compound. It may also come as a brush on, which would make more sense for road making.

Thanks, may be interesting to see some roads made out of this stuff.

I use a variety of material to represent roads. Stickers, Felt, Cork, Painted on roads & N scale train track underlay. Each has its good points & bad. The track underlay is shaped OK but is soft so cannot be painted with lines. Always on the look out for better material.

I am using cardstock. This has a lot of advantages. First it is darn cheap. Second, you can tape pin it down. Third you can make custom road sections easily. I bought some downloadable road sets and just use paint to edit them.

Downsides: does not play well with hills.

For dirt roads, I use dirt.

CDP, posting pictures is something I haven't yet mastered. It's advertised on TV by cutting out the bottom of a small fishing boat, covering the opening with a screen, then coating the screen with the stuff, after which they float the boat. Not something I would try in Australia, given some of the fauna you guys have.

At any rate, I got a can and will try it by masking off a road on a piece of plywood, spraying it on, then removing the tape. Will post the results as soon as I can.

Why not just buy rubber sheeting? This strikes me as a very messay way to do the same thing.

I was referring to the spray and wondering if anyone had tried it.
