Thanks for all the kind comments.
I still say all of you boat people are out of your Rigging minds, these are just way too small!
I take my hat off to you all, these models are a completely different ball game. Talk about fifty shades of gray. I soon found out you have to tone the colours way down. I think highlights are a must but sooo easy to mess up.

"Whoa"I now understand why there was such an outcry over the ship decals, they are almost essential, no way I was going to try to paint/draw those on.
The helos are sitting on my desk. I have no need for the Seasprites but since my Imagi-Nation uses AS Panthers I might get some Chinese Z-9.
But then again the 1/285 Panther is almost as big as the dam Frigate!
And I had trouble painting that bugger.

How 'bout some T30 SPGs?

Image
This pair is painted up for my US Army in Tunisia.

Image
The "75mm Howitzer, Motor Carriage, T30" served as the "assault gun" of US mech and armored formations from the entry of forces into French North Africa through about the end of 1943. Assault Gun batteries were found in the TOEs of Tank and Armored Rec / Mech Cavalry battalions. So these guys can serve the Mech Cav platoon I have shown recently in this thread, as well as my M3 Medium Tank (Lee) and M3 Light Tank (Stuart) companies.

Image
Whereas these T30s, with white stars, are now available to support my M4A1 Medium Tank (Sherman) company as shown recently in this thread.

I never really understood the value of adding a different type of vehicle optimized to throw 75mm HE to a unit equipped with tanks with 75mm guns, but hey that's the way the US Army rocked for the first half of its involvement in the war.

I can see adding 75mm SPGs to a light tank formation with only 37mm guns. The HE firepower was quite a boost to the units' abilities against any sort of dug-in defenses, I'm sure.

For an interesting read on T30s supporting M3A1 Stuart tanks, try this article I researched, drafted and illustrated for the Chieftain some years back: http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php ... s/#topmost

Later in the war the US Sherman tank formations got the Sherman 105mm SPGs to fill this role, and the M5 Stuart tank formations got M8 75mm SPGs (in the thread a ways back).

The figures are either GHQ standing artillery crew or seated armored infantry.

A small enough project that it didn't take me forever to complete…

And then, for those who like a bit more of a twist...

Image
I present my lovely GHQ Russian gun limber teams.

Image
But wait ... how ... where did he ... ?

Image
I assure you they are all GHQ. The caissons come with the GHQ 45mm AT gun / 76.2mm infantry gun packs. In the packs you get Komsomolyets prime movers to tow them. But my research showed me that the caisson was essentially identical to the horse-drawn caissons used for the same weapons.

The horses are (mostly) from GHQ Russian cavalry packs. Each pack comes with some pack horses -- so one pack horse and one ridden horse per team, and two gun crewmen riding on the caisson that are provided by GHQ to ride on the Komsomolyets, and you are ready to role!

But I must confess these are not recent work.

Image
Here you can see them at game time, pulling back after depositing some AT guns as part of a general advance of Red Army tanks and infantry. Game time, in this case, was a gaming con in ... 2005!

So yeah, not recent work. But I took them out over the weekend for some pictures that actually showed them close-up for the first time. An easy conversion that I thought some others might find interesting.

Great work Mk1, and very interesting post. The history is interesting. Was there ever an issue on how far those guns could be depressed? Just thinking close combat but I guess that wouldn’t be a huge deal now that I ask that... kit bash is very cool too. Thanks for sharing it!

Fast airbrush of stuff I picked up from eBay. I found those cheap $15 red airbrushes from Amazon does a good job so with 3 of them I did these in an hour or so.
I know not great but I didn’t want to mess with getting the old paint off.
Painted for my imagi-nation These will be for the smaller kingdoms/states with limited military budgets.
