And so it begins....Grunt Week is off to a fantastic start! Even though it was not scheduled, about 3oo infantrymen showed up at the polo field this morning for PT! After a nice smoke session in the wet grass everyone went for a run, just to get the day started right!

The squads completed the marksmanship competition this morning (pistol and rifle) at the range which was run by ROD instructors. After a hearty MRE lunch, the squads moved to the grenade assault course, which is run by experts from the CoC.

In addition to hitting the small arms ranges to shoot every pistol, rifle, and SMG that they could get their hands on, the attendees spent several hours talking shop and comparing notes at the infantry static display field. Not only were there some great displays from infantry units around the world, but there were also defense contractors and industry reps there peddling their wares. Here are a few pics from the static displays:

Bodgit & Konnem Defence (BKD) from Karmanaskis was very visible at the static display.

They had a full line of Infantry small arms along with all kinds useful gear for the fashion conscious warrior.

The growing Karma defence industry is pushing hard with 4x4's, dirt bikes, small boats, drone systems, anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles on offer.

Even Mad Max style armed and armoured sadans

That's an awesome display! We are very glad to have BKD here for Grunt Week!

Yesterday was a lot of fun! The squads all did very well on the small arms range! After shooting pistols and rifles the top shooting was was the squad from Nigeriadom 7th Rangers and the top shooting grunt was Nigerian grunt #7! The squads also ran the grenade assault course, negotiating obstacles for time while tossing grenades for accuracy. The winning squad was KDF's Jaeger Bomb squad, and the top grunt was Jaeger Bomb grunt #4.

Today the festivities continue! The squads are doing land navigation through the training areas in the morning, followed by the Ball Buster obstacle course in the afternoon. After some ho chow for dinner, the squads will be out in the dark for night time land navigation! CoC cadre will oversee the land navigation exercise while instructors from the RPNW are running the obstacle course.

For non-competitors, the obstacle course is open for the world's grunts to tackle. The Ball Buster is open all morning, and then the attendees will move to "Camp Swampy" (a training area with a rappel tower and a dank lake) for training in field craft, water operations, and rappeling.

The grenade competition started with weighted grenades, none live.
For preliminary scoring to eliminate any unsafe Grenadiers…. The safety holes around each sandbagged throwing pit. Each about 8ft by 3 feet 2 1/2 to 3 feet deep for safety.
Will be moving to smoke grenades with same weight, feel, as combat HE grenades. Less than a dozen removed from competition.
Video recording taking place.

The grunts are up early today! There is some PT going on again today, but not for the squads. They will be stepping off shortly for the 12-mile ruck march. Squads will be graded on time, and all 10 grunts need to complete the march with their 45 pound ruck. The ruck march is being administered by the ROD and will last most of the morning. After a change of socks and some lunch the squads will it the bayonet assault course, run by the KDF. Obstacles AND bayonet targets! What could possibly go wrong? Then, after dinner when everyone is thinking about a night cap, the squads will march back out to the range for nighttime pistol and rifle shooting!

For the non-competing grunts, this is a range day! Small arms range again in the morning, run by the ROD. This is your chance to shoot your fill of pistols, rifles, SMGs, shotguns, etc. Meet your homies from other countries and shoot their weapons to get a feel for them. The name of the game is “Bang, Bang, Pass”.

In the afternoon everyone will take a short walk to the crew-served ranges for more shooting – except this time it’s the big stuff! Light machine guns, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, even some ATGMs!

And the results of yesterday’s competition were announced as well. The RPNW Marine squad takes home the trophy for land navigation, with Marine #3 posting the fastest time. And on the obstacle course, the squad from Bulgariadom’s 17 Commando is the winning squad, with commando #5 posting the fastest time.
Winners of the ruck march and the bayonet assault course will be announced tomorrow!

This morning the grunts are at it early again! After PT the squads all reported to the sawdust pits for combatives (hand-to-hand combat). Expert instructors from the RPNW are putting the squads through their paces. After some rigorous training, the squads are competing in 1-on-1 combatives drills. This is just the first round and a winner will be named tomorrow and crowned “King of the Pit”.

After lunch the squads are heading out into the woods for patrolling and squad lanes. ROD troops from the 4th Infantry division are playing OPFOR for the lanes. There will be a brief break for dinner, and then the squads move into nighttime patrolling ops.

While the squads are showing their stuff, the other Grunt Wek attendees will hit the bayonet assault course in the morning, and then go through the same combatives training in the afternoon, though without the 1-on-1 competition.

This morning the winners from yesterday’s events were named. The squad from Mindanaodom’s 1st Commando took home the ruck march trophy for completing the 12-mile course in the fastest time. On the bayonet assault course, the squad from the NC Airborne Regiment earned top honors, with grunt #1 being the fastest through the course with no penalties or injuries.

Grunt Week is nearing its exciting climax! Not time for PT this morning as the squads were conducting patrols and missions all night and then they marched back into the sawdust pits for the culmination of the combatives competition. 36 grunts will get into the pit and go head to head until one grunt is named King of the Pit.

As soon as the competition is over the grunts will ruck up and head back out into the wilderness. The squads will conduct squad lanes for several hours and then in the afternoon they will transition to platoon lanes. The runts will continue night patrols and missions all night, and in the early morning they will conduct the final mission – a company level air assault mission.

The other attendees will have an action packed day as well. All grunts that are up to the task are welcome to attempt to earn the coveted Expert Warrior Badge, administered by ROD instructors. They will also have an opportunity to conduct a parachute drop, and those with sturdy feet (which should be every infantryman) will have a chance to conduct a helicopter insertion into the training area and then march back to dinner, about 12 miles away.

[GM’s Note: I had intended to post more pictures of infantry stuff this week, but work has been crazy. Please feel free to post some pics tonight and tomorrow of your grunts! All helicopters are welcome in the air assault mission, so throw up some pics of your choppers too!]

NC got top honours for just a bayonet charge? Huh.

(NC Officer): "Sergeant come here."
(NC Sergeant): "Yes sir?"
(NC Officer):"Try to get the Expert Warrior Badge for us." (Slips money into the sergeants pocket) "Im counting on your squad to win that."
(NC Sergeant): "Yes sir."

I heard the EE is looking forward to meeting these NC grunts in Turkey.
We shall see how their bayonet ability and skills hold up in combat.

It’s been a long night, but the grunts are pushing through to the final mission this morning: the air assault! All of the grunts are loading onto helicopters of various types and assaulting the bunker complex and fortified village of Boobenhausen, located deep in the multi-purpose range complex. No one is holding back in this final engagement, which will be followed by a chopper ride back to the barracks and a barbecue.

For those that do not want to go out into the woods to watch the air assault mission, Camp Swampy is open for rappelling and water ops. And tonight the combatives trophy will be awarded to this years “King of the Pit” – ROD Marine SGT Anderson Lugnutz.
