Which T-72 model to use

Post by El Grego »

As I slowly slide back into micro-armour, I am looking to get some Cold War games in, circa 1984.

I am a bit confused about which T-72 pack to use. Reactive armor is out I think, which reduces the selection greatly. But there are two T-72 contenders in GHQ's line-up: W81 T-72M1 and W28 T-74

Which one of these will work for my needs?

All mine are T72s, no add-on armor because that was all that was available wen I bought them... So long ago. Soviet MRR tank battalions still had 40 tanks back then. (Mine still do)

The T-72M1 is the export variant, so you're actually better off with the T-74 which is a T-72A. Unless you're doing Poles or Czechs when T-72M1 is appropriate.

The T-72M1 version looks more detailed than the T-74 version to me, but my T-72s are an older casting that do not look like either. Go with what appeals to you. You have to paint them after all.

Thank you everyone for the quick replies!

I imagine that I will get some of each pack, just to make certain...
