Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
Here is my Micronaut Wish List for 2022-2023. Changes from the previous list are replacement of Sovyetsky Soyuz and Duke of York (late-war appearance), which are scheduled for production by GHQ with a pair of late-war USA ships. My choices are (in alphabetical order of country of origin):
• WWII France torpedo boat La Melpomene-class: This class of miniature destroyers was intended for escort work in the Mediterranean. They turned out overweight, lacking in stability, and unsuited for open-ocean work. They were fast, however, and several of them had interesting careers. There are numerous other small ships of similar characteristics that I would like modeled (see Italian Spica-class below).
• WWII France destroyer Vauquelin-class: GHQ’s FRN5 is labeled as Vauquelin, but I believe the arrangement of the torpedoes and the shape of the stern is that of the preceding Aigle class. There are several classes of WWII-era French destroyers yet to be modeled by GHQ; any of the following would be welcome: Mogador, Guepard, Chacal, L’Adroit, and Bourrasque.
• WWII Germany amphibious craft: Germany had a variety of small and medium-sized amphibious craft such as F-lighters, Marinefährprahm, Siebel ferry, etc. These were used in the Mediterranean, Black Sea and other coastal combat areas. I would like something similar to USN54, Landing Assault Craft, or USN55, Landing Support Craft, with a variety of types in a package.
• WWII Germany Aircraft Pack 2: First of all, a single-engined fighter (Fw 190A/F or Bf 109T), Ju 88 or Ju 188 (preferably armed as a dive-bomber), He 111 (preferably with torpedo armament), He 115 floatplane, and/or He 177 (preferably with FX 1400 guided bomb or Hs 293 missiles)]: All five types played significant roles in maritime combat. The Germans really need a single-engine fighter. Maybe even both fighter types rather than one of the Heinkel aircraft.
• WWI Italy light cruiser Bixio-class or Quarto: One of these would give the Italians a scouting force to go along with its heavier forces. The Pisa-class cruiser that GHQ produced for the 2018-2019 season is an armored cruiser rather than a light cruiser.
• WWI Italy battleship Dante Alighieri: This one-of-a-kind battleship carried heavy armament and had a high speed at the expense of relatively light armor. I would like to have it both because of its unusual appearance and to complete the Italian WWI battle fleet.
• WWII Italy destroyer Folgore-class: This class of four destroyers and the similar Freccia-class saw extensive service as escorts in the Mediterranean. Less than satisfactory because of mechanical unreliability, these ships still deserve to have a good model in 1/2400 scale. CinC makes a model for the Freccia class, but GHQ would be better.
• WWI Italy destroyer Indomito or Pilo-class: I would like the WWI Italian fleet to have a full-sized destroyer. The Soldato-class that GHQ produced last year is more of a torpedo boat rather than a destroyer.
• WWII Italy torpedo boat Spica-class: These were good-looking ships with high speed, but let down by the armament scheme. Their gun and torpedo armament was ineffective against full-size destroyers and left insufficient capacity for defensive weapons. They would have been much better escorts with more anti-submarine and anti-air capability. I would like more of these smaller warships available.
• WWII Japan late-war Navy aircraft: Aichi B7A Ryusei [Grace], Kawanishi N1K Shiden [George], Mitsubishi A7M Reppu [Sam], Yokosuka D4Y3 [Judy] (radial version), Yokosuka P1Y Ginga [Frances]. Although Jill, Val, etc. continued fighting to the end of the war, they were meat on the table for Hellcats and Corsairs. Improved Japanese aircraft make hypothetical late-war battles more evenly balanced. I was disappointed that GHQ did not include any of these when they released IJN58, CV Unryu.
• WWII Japan heavy cruiser Maya, late-war appearance: This Takao class heavy cruiser was badly damaged at Rabaul. After repairs, the ruined “C” turret had been replaced by two additional twin 5-inch mounts. Although this is a single ship, I think the interest in Japanese cruisers is enough to make this a good choice for GHQ’s production.
• WWII Japan destroyer Mutsuki class, fast transport conversion: This was the last of the Japanese destroyer classes before the introduction of the revolutionary “Special Type” Fubuki. Considered obsolescent by 1940, they were converted into fast transports, most of which were sunk during the Solomons Campaign. This is the configuration that I would prefer.
• WWII Japan destroyer Shimakaze: This was only a single ship but many more were planned. This was a particularly fast and powerful design for a classic destroyer. Later in the war, the main gun armament was reduced to provide additional anti-aircraft protection. I would prefer the original appearance.
• WWI UK battlecruiser Renown-class: This was the last class of battlecruisers completed during the Great War. Repulse saw combat in the First World War when she participated in the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight. Although CinC makes a model of this class, GHQ’s would be better
• WWII UK aircraft Fleet Air Arm pack: By now, anyone with 1/2400-scale British aircraft has plenty of Swordfish, but none of the other purpose-built aircraft used on carriers. Blackburn Skua, Fairey Fulmar, Fairey Firefly, and Fairey Barracuda would provide some variety on the decks. For land-based designs adapted for carrier use, Gloster Gladiators and Hawker Hurricanes would also be useful in addition to the available Spitfires. All of these aircraft saw significant combat from British carriers. If a Hurricane were available, it would also allow me to put aircraft on Catapult Armed Merchant Ships (CAMSs).
• WWII UK light cruisers Scylla and Charybdis: These two ships were nominally part of the Dido class, but because of shortage of the 5.25-inch guns that were to have been their main armament, they each received four twin 4.5-inch anti-aircraft guns instead. Sometimes referred to as “toothless,” they proved excellent anti-aircraft escorts and saw significant combat.
• WWII UK destroyers ‘V & W’ long-range escort conversions. These ships underwent significant conversion from obsolescent destroyers into effective anti-submarine escorts. The extent of the conversion makes it impractical to change GHQ’s UKN43 into this appearance. GHQ has already produced the unconverted version and the even more extensively converted anti-aircraft WAIR version. I would like them to continue with this and later the fast (short-range) escort version.
• WWII USA aircraft: land-based attack and medium bombers: The Douglas A-20 Havoc and its late-war replacement, the A-26 Invader, were high-powered attack types. GHQ already makes a B-25B (with USS Hornet and in the land-based bomber set), but I would like to have a late-model North American B-25H or J for low-level anti-shipping strikes. Although the Martin B-26 Marauder was used mostly for medium-altitude level bombing in Europe, they participated in the Battle of Midway as torpedo bombers.
• WWII USA auxiliary ships: Just before and during WWII the USA constructed a large number of purpose-built auxiliary ships on a common hull design. These included the Dixie (AD 14)-class destroyer tenders [5 in class], the Fulton (AS 11)-class submarine tenders [4 in class], and the Vulcan (AR 5)-class repair ships [7 in class]. Although the classes were not identical, they were similar in carrying significant self-defense armament so that they could serve in advanced bases.
• WWII USA destroyer, Fletcher-class, late-war anti-aircraft modification (forward bank of torpedo tubes removed, 2 quad 40 mm Bofors added, 7x1 20mm replaced with 6x2 20mm. By this stage of the war, opportunities for large scale torpedo launchings were much less likely than having to defend against heavy Kamikaze attacks.
• WWII USA attack transport Harris (APA 2) class: Sixteen medium-sized passenger liners were built at the end of WWI to the “Design 1029” standard, also known as the “dollar design” and the “President 535-foot” design. Most operated as merchant liners between the wars, were taken over by the Army in 1940 and transferred to the Navy in 1942. Four were sold outside the US in the late 1930s, one remained in service with the Army, three were sunk as Navy transport ships before conversion to attack transports, and eight were converted into attack transports. I would prefer these modeled as attack transports with the military transport second choice, but the civil version would be OK.
• WWII US heavy cruiser Indianapolis (CA 35) (final configuration) – US cruisers went through a multitude of refurbishments during the war, usually to increase anti-aircraft capability and reduce the resulting top weight. For example, the Pensacola (CA 24) as built differs from the early-war appearance (as modeled by GHQ’s USN40), which is different from the mid-war appearance, which is different from the late-war appearance. Chester (CA 27), Augusta (CA 31), or New Orleans (CA 32) would also be welcome, but Indianapolis gets my vote because of her tragic sinking.
• WWII US heavy cruiser Oregon City (CA 122)-class: These were modifications of the Baltimore-class with reduced superstructure to provide better sky arcs for the anti-aircraft guns. Their single funnels gave them a distinctly different appearance from the Baltimores. They were completed too late to see combat in WWII.
• To go along with the Oregon City class, I’d like to see the corresponding modification of the Cleveland-class – the Fargo (CL 106)-class.

Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
Thanks for the new list, Donald! I know a lot of thought and effort went into this. I did get my wish from last year when GHQ produced the British WWI ships, Canopus and Otranto. I think I have the ships I need to be able to do Coronel and Falklands when I get around to it.

Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
Micronaut Wish List Summary
This posting separates the various eras, with the number of ships listed in each era based (approximately) on GHQ’s recent output of models. The sequence is:
• Post-Cold War: top 25
• Cold War: top 15
• WWII: top 25
• WWI: top 20
• Pre-Dreadnought and earlier steam: top 10
• Pre-steam: top 5
There may be more than the specified number of ships listed because of ties. The sequence within each era is based on number of “votes,” country, and name.
Because of the length of the total list (about 4238 different items), the posted summary includes only those items for which there are enough votes to meet the above criteria. This reduces the posted list to 114 items. For the current rate at which GHQ is producing new Micronauts, it would take more than eight years to produce just these models.
For those of you who do not see items for which you have voted, I continue to track all the votes. If an item gets additional votes to raise the total to the “top 100”, it will reappear on the posted summary. Feel free to inquire in the forum or by private message about any specific item(s) not appearing in the posted summary.

Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
Gentlemen (and Ladies, if there are any on this thread);
The top "want" in the WWII section of Don Scheef's want list summary is:
Germany Schnellboote (E-boats), S-100 type
I don't know anything about this class, but it sounds small. How big would this class be in 2400 scale?
ALSO -
With regard to the V25 - V48 German TBD/DD that GHQ just produced, can GHQs model be used for all of the ships in that group of 24? Or are there differences in the designs of ships built by the different ship builders in WWI?

Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
I think that E-boat is 115' long, so about 0.57" or 14.5mm in 1/2400 scale. Small but a bit larger than the typical PT boat.Mikee wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 9:09 amGentlemen (and Ladies, if there are any on this thread);

About half an inch long? If it's ever produced, I can hardly wait to see how come of our painting experts handle the camouflage patterns.

Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
I think I'll begin the exciting rush to list the ships that GHQ should produce for our anxious modelers for the year 2021/2022. Here it is:
My "top twelve" list hasn't changed much since I posted my list in June 2019. Since 2019, I think that GHQ has added the predreadnought Braunschweig (I still don't guarantee the spelling) to their production line. (It was #10 on my last list.) I think I first listed these wishes in 2015 (maybe even earlier), & I STILL want them!!! I've considered going to GHQ and standing in their office, whining, until I get my way. This used to work for one of my granddaughters (before she grew up), but she was - and still is - lots cuter than me. Somehow, I doubt I'd be as successful getting my way as she was in getting her way.
1. DD Melpomene class. The small French DD. Le Fier would be an acceptable substitute
2. AC Waldeck Rosseau. This WW1 protected cruiser had six funnels. Maybe not a particularly good reason to choose this ship, but it just fascinates me.
3. DD Akatsuki. Between CinC and GHQ, nearly all the other WWII IJN DDs are covered. Only the Wakatake would be left undone (according to my reference book).
4. BB Iowa. Not a big difference from the Missouri, but the bridge is different, and B turret has a different arrangement of AA guns. This would be simple to produce, & I think it would be popular.
5. DD Maestrale or Oriani classes. These classes were similar, so one model could be used for both classes. CinC already does (or did) either the Folgore or Freccia class, so I'd like to see GHQ produce something a little different.
6. BB Malaya. The only U.K. BB that needs to be added. "Tiny Thingmajigs" on Shapeways has one; I may order that model if I ever get around to making an order with them.
7. CA York. (Shapeways has one now.)
8. CA Suss ex. I think this model could be used for four different U.K. CAs. One of those had a real interesting camo pattern that I'd like to try, if I ever get back to painting models.
9. CLAA Scylla. Two ships in this class.
10. CL Uganda class. There were 3 ships in this group.
11. & 12. I don't have additional ones in mind; I doubt I'll live long enough to see the this ten produced by GHQ, so there's no need add more. OTOH. if I "had to," I'd start listing U.K. Class C light cruiser variants to the list. I suspect I might have more success recommending them to WTJ, though; they have produced several Fletcher DD and Omaha CL variants, and might be interested in "C class" variants.

I’d like to see the Bird class minesweeper, so we can model HMNZS Kiwi, Moa, and Tui. More WWII French destroyers so we can fully take advantage of FDDs new hull number sheets. Type I and Type III Hunt class. I had some other British stuff, but I can’t remember now, I think it was A class or B class destroyers, I’ll have to look into it, I could be wrong.

I thought of another I’d like to see, modified Le Fantasque, basically after they’d received upgraded AA and wing platforms on the aft deckhouse. Not just for more AA defense, but it would open up more painting options after they’d undergone yard periods in the US.

Re: Consolidated Micronaut Wish List
Dear Gentle People - AKA "ship collectors";
Last December I issued a Call To Arms (or something like that) for our vast ship collecting army (maybe only half vast army) to list their most-wanted ships for 2022-2023. Only Beagle and Mech Commander responded. What happened? Have most of our ship collectors left GHQ" Are they too depressed to respond, possibly because not enough ships from Donald Scheef's most-wanted list have been produced? Is there nothing left that our ship collectors want (other thn Bird class MSs and a few other things.)? How can any serious ship collector be happy without an Iowa? A Malaya? An Edgar Quinet (French WWI cruiser with six funnels; hope I've got the name right)?

I’d like to add Commencement Bay and Attacker Class escort carriers.
