Time consuming compared to the old spray patterns.
Anyone figured out a easy way? I end up painting a bunch of “L”

I was pondering this same question and I was thinking the best way, if you have the skill and the tools, may be to make up decals in the appropriate colors to apply over the base coat. Use a lot of setting solution and seal it well.
I toyed with calligraphy pens but they didn't come out "square" enough and the colors were difficult to make work over a dark base coat.
I also thought about stencils but I suspect it would be very difficult and time consuming to make them and durability could be an issue.

I wonder if there is some kind of stamp that can be used. Like a teeny tiny square or rectangle stamp that can be used to apply the paint with hard angles. Maybe something like those foam brushes, but trimmed down, and then you could stamp a very light coat of color onto the top coat so that it doesn't spread out and it keeps the square shape.

Really need decals to put over a base color for that.

I think decals would work well on aircraft etc with a smooth surface over a base colour,
My attempts have come out more like a mottle effect.
I have some Marine vehicles which I am trying to digitize but still a WIP and time consuming.
