Absolutely sensational work!

Holy smokes Bill! Those planes are awesome! How do you get just the right amount of shininess to the aircraft? When I was doing the Korean War carrier aircraft it was obvious that the actual planes had a glossy finish to them, so I painted my models with gloss paint, but even with a coat of dullcoat om them they still look way to shiny to me.

Re: Bills stuff
Bill, the planes look great.
If you’d like to fly one over here for the museum, that would great ot at a local air show.

Re: Bills stuff
Thanks a lot Chris.
Red, after the models are painted, I spray them with gloss clear, so I can apply the decals without any silvering underneath. Once I apply setting solution to the decals, for a model that would have a gloss finish like these, I spray a top coat of semi gloss clear to seal decals and to bring the shininess down to a scale effect gloss. From my experience, not all clear is created equal. For me, I have NEVER, had any luck with any brand of flat from a spray can, they all seem to have a certain degree of satin to them. I pretty much spray all of my clears from my airbrush using Mr. Color, those are the best I've found that work for me, even the flat is completely....flat. Here are some pictures of before and after of some more works in progress, sorry for the poor quality, they were taken at different times. I know they are darker in the first picture, I think I forgot to turn a light on.
After gloss clear and decal setting solution,
After semi gloss

Thanks for the tips Bill! I think I'm gong to have to finally go and get myself an airbrush! I have been putting it off for years, but it sounds like I will need one to move to the next level of painting! Your planes look awesome!

Its been a while since I've posted, but I've been busy.
Here is IJN Center Force for Samar.
Some work I'm doing for a future display. There are two ships left and I'll have Taffy III finished.

Thanks a lot Pete Burt and Chris!
Burt, I really have no idea how long it took as far as hours, I never keep track. But to be fair, the ships with the lighter bases are from a previous project, so that cut the task in half. I ended up painting 11 destroyers and two cruisers for the Japanese, and all of Taffy III.
