It's been quite some time since I've done anything micro-related. I've been playing too much Starfield. Anyway, yesterday some metal bases I'd ordered for a battalion's worth of Adler US Airborne arrived. These are for a friend and he wanted them based on metal bases so that he could use larger magnetised sabots for a higher-level game. Below is a photo of the entire battalion just after I'd started basing up the figures. The bases are about 1/32" thick and were custom cut for me by Precision Wargame Supplies in the UK.

Everyone's stuff looks great. I've been getting into some of the new "speedpaints" for my 28mm figures for fantasy games and the like. Has anyone tried those for 1/285?

A few Soviet squads. I’m trying out mounting a full (10-11 guys) on a transparent base. So trimming off the bases and the extra material around the LMG.

Very nice work on the infantry, rhabstclair. It is nice to see you back posting again, Gazza, and your infantry looks great as well. Mech Commander it is very nice to see your artillery. I have been to the Sentry Box in Calgary when I used to go there for work each year. I haven't been there for probably 18 years or so at least.

Thanks to everyone for posting here. It is great to see this thread and this forum is still going strong.

Rhabstclair, those infantry look great! Very nice.

Now to my MRAP … lower your expectations…four vehicles are 3-d print with GHQ turret up top. New paint brush, still I need to change.

Rhabstclair, they are ammo, supplies, etc.
I have painted a couple some time ago as coolers, one round and 2 rectangular shaped coolers.

Ambulance in the field.

Tried making crews for my SU-76’s by chopping a Russian artillery crew in half and painting their caps German Grey.

(I really need a better camera than my iPhone )

Nice work you guys!

rhabstclair, your infantry look fantastic! How big are the bases that you are using for those squads. Seeing the whole squad on a single base is very impressive! And the vehicle crews work very well!

Thanks redleg! Those are the 1” square transparent bases from Litko, in the thinnest option.

Yeah, I thought 1-1 scale with the vehicles, might as well go 1-1 scale with the dudes too!

I am very pleased to announce that a new milestone has been reached in the DD-214 project. This is 3rd BCT / 4th ID, as she appeared in 1999. To be precise, this would be late 1999 as the maneuver battalions deactivated their D Companies earlier that year and the BRT was activated over the summer. The brigade consists of 1-8 Infantry, 1-12 Infantry, 1-68 Armor, 3-29 FA, and B Troop / 9th Cavalry. I did not build the engineer battalion, forward support battalion, or brigade HHC.

For this project, I only modeled the killing stuff – no support vehicles and no wheeled vehicles other than the scouts. The maneuver battalions have their tanks and Brads, plus the mortar platoon, scout platoon, and 3 M577s for the TOC. The DS artillery battalion has the guns and FAASVs, FDCs, FIST-Vs, and 2 M577s for the TOC. The brigade reconnaissance troop has the 18 scout HMMWVs, and of course there is the brigade commander’s M113. There are a total of 258 vehicles.

There is some variation in the vehicle colors here. None of them are particularly well painted, but they are all the basic desert tan color. This unit came together over the course of several years, so some of the color variation is due to changes in paint brand. Some is due to my experimenting with painting techniques as well. Some vehicles have a brown wash, some have a black wash, and some have no wash. I have no plans to repaint anything at this point – I’m going to embrace the variations!

On a personal note, I got to Fort Carson, CO in January 1999 from Korea as a newly promoted 1LT. I was assigned to 3-29 FA and my first job was fire support officer for A Company / 1-68 Armor. Later I became the COLT / Striker platoon leader, and I moved the entire platoon to the BRT when it was activated. Then I came back to 3-29 and I was a gun platoon leader in B Battery.

Only one more brigade to go for this project to be complete!
