That Valentine bridgelayer is amazing. It looks like the bridging mechanism actually works! Hmm, I've got that spare Churchill bridgelayer (so hence the bridge) and GHQ Valentine hull (from a Bishop). So, maybe...

Going back to the subject of the Priest Kangaroo, I'd forgotten that BPM did one. Over the years, I've also been tempted to attempt to convert a few myself. It shouldn't be too much of a task. Remove gun and any ammo storage etc. Add a few bits of additional superstructure. I found a webpage of a guy doing such a conversion for Flames of War. I might order a few Priest hulls from H&R and give it a go.

That conversion on the Valentine to a Valentine Bridgelayer looks excellent, Olfarty! Quite a bit of nice detail that you have included.

I have the Churchill Bridglayer and the Panzer IV Bridgelayer and even the T-28 Bridgelayer. The Panzer IV Bridgelayer in the GHQ catalog was painted by me. I found it interesting that GHQ went back to their older model of Panzer IV as the base hull for that model. Truthfully, I actually like the older Panzer IV models a bit more than the newer ones which started with the Panzer IVG. There are some issues with those in my opinion.

Thanks very much, Olfarty.

I too have about 30+ of the older Panzer IVH as well as some of the earlier types. A few weeks ago, I just added 6 more Panzer IVF1s to my painted collection. GHQ makes the newer Panzer IVF2 of which I have about 10. I also have some of the older castings. They have not updated their Panzer IVF1 though.

Personally, I think GHQ missed the mark on their newer Panzer IV series due to some issues in proportions and the fact that the prominent drive sprocket lacks teeth and is the wrong shape. I noticed that the brackets holding the turret skirts on the Panzer IVH seem to have an extreme angle to them vs the ones on the older Panzer IVH. I'm not sure why.

These conversions/scratch builds of yours look like they should on display in a museum rather than on the gaming table.

Great work on the ferry, Olfarty! I really like your rendering on the Camo on the Thornycroft as well.

Hi Olfarty

In regards to GHQ's Panzer IVG, I think I will paint a couple of the ones I have and also finish off a couple of the Panzer IVF2s that I started on several years ago. When I post this, I will show some pictures of the unpainted castings and illustrate some of the problem areas but also show the areas that GHQ did well. My Afrika Korps could use a couple of Panzer IVGs and they will also be useful for 1942-43 Russian Front. The Panzer IVF1s are already base coated for my Afrika Korps. I will do a side by side comparison with the older GHQ Panzer IVF2s that I have.

I really like the way you proceed, working out of these old photos. Gives a lot of authenticity to the result. 8)
