I just about resisted posting all the armour from my WWII Russians, but here's a photo from a KV company that I've just finished - I've not even made it's little storage tray yet.
I have been stripping and re-painting some of my older Russian gear. I'm going for the old school dark green color, but I'm not sure how close I am.
I did a BMP-1 company in Tamiya Olive Green (XF-58) that sitting on the table looked a little dark to me.
So then I did a 2S1 battery in the lighter (and ironically named) NATO Green (XF-67).
I suppose the difference is not huge, but when I look at them side by side I lean toward the BMP color of Olive Green. Does anyone have a preference for relatively modern Russian / Soviet colors?
It looks pretty reasonable to me, Redleg, and well painted too. There are lots of variations in Russian armor color both during WWII and Post War as well.
For my WWII Russians I use Humbrol #86 German Light Olive with some white added to lighten it a bit.
For my Cold War Russians, I actually use Humbrol #155 Olive Drab with a bit of white added. It looks reasonable to my eyes.
LIke Pete, I've used Humbrol 86 in the past (although I didn't bother to lighten it) along with a multitude of other green paints. I think I initially used Humbrol 30 as Airfix tended to recommend that for almost any military green - I'm exaggerating but not by much.
I've recently used a Vallejo green (Intermediate Green - maybe) and AK Interactive's 4B0 Green.
I just finished up a company of BTR-80s. I’m pretty happy with these because I feel like I made a lot of progress with my washing and dry brushing skills. I found that having multiple projects on the work bench at the same time actually helps me to be patient. Usually, I am in a hurry to finish painting, but with 2 projects I split my attention between the different units and I don’t feel as rushed. I’ll try to keep this going in the future. I certainly have plenty of projects that I want to do!
