Which is best model for German Heavy Cruiser Blucher

Post by ww2navyguy »

I was looking for some help on which GHQ model is best representation for WW2 German Heavy Cruiser Blucher? Is GEN6 for CA Prinz Eugen or GEN21 CA Admiral Hipper the best choice? The different bow types have me confused. Thanks!

Go with Admiral Hipper - dimensionally closer to the Blucher than Prinz Eugene.

Thanks StarCruiser. I wasn't sure about which model had the "more correct" bow for an early war (1940) version of heavy cruiser Blucher for Operation Weserübung (invasion of Norway).

I have both models in my collection, and well, they have a very similar bow (can't see a difference there) and indeed, taken from the Wikipedia page on Hipper :
In November 1939, the ship returned to the Blohm & Voss dockyard for modifications; these included the replacement of the straight stem with a clipper bow and the installation of the funnel cap.
I guess the GHQ model is representing the ship after these reworks. I'd consequently advise you to go for the Prinz : the bow won't be more wrong than Hipper, but the forward upper works down to the funnel look a lot more like Blücher's .

The big problem with the Hipper "class" cruisers is that none of them were even close to identical.

Different length, displacement and some differences in the superstructure etc... Then you add in that the two available models represent Hipper and Eugene at different points in their service and....?

Both are probably close enough and it's incredibly doubtful that GHQ will bother with Blucher since she came and "went" very quickly.
