Nice choppers, redleg, that's a lot of them! I also like your Sheridans a lot. Interesting AFV, the Sheridan, atypical of the way AFVs evolved in the 70s-80s.

Redleg,
Nice commentary and pictures on your assault aviation unit and the Sheridans. UH-60 look real nice.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
The forum is back up and running.....for now!
I have been pretty productive lately and it's been a while since I have been able to post any pics. Here is a quick update:
When I first started the ACR project I was just re-organizing stuff I had, and then i started adding new units, so much of 1st squadron is pretty crappily painted. I am refurbing some of the older units, starting with A Troop. Here is 2nd Platoon - all the tanks are getting stripped and repainted, plus adding the MGs that I failed to add to my tanks.

I finished up my Sheridan company by adding some HQ vehicles. I'm really not sure what a Sheridan company should have, but I dug through the rando box for spares and they got an M113 for the first sergeant, an M578 recovery vehicle (I never know what to do with those), a couple hard top HMMWVs, and a pair of 5-ton trucks.

And finally, I finished up the assault troop for the ACR's aviation squadron. I'm going with the original plan of 15 Blackhawks in the assault troop, plus 3 air cav troops (OH-58D) and 2 attack troops (AH-64D). I'm still not done with Blackhawks though - I need 3 more to serve as EH-60s for the regiment.

And since I have all my Blackhawks in the ACR, I will have to keep using this beat up old Huey as my personal C2 bird!

Perhaps a purchase with the GHQ fall sale will include 4 Blackhawks to provide the EH-60s and my personal chopper!

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
The light armor company (M551) was organized the same as the standard one - 5 Sheridans in each of 3 platoons plus 2 in the headquarters section. The only light armor unit I followed was that assigned to the 82nd Division. I imagine platoons were reorganized when the Army converted to Division 86, but I haven't looked.
In the H series TOEs, M578s were assigned 2 per tank battalion (one in the bn maintenance section, one in combat support company), mech battalions (one to each company, 2 to battalion) and to artillery battalions (one per battery, with two M88s at bn maintenance section). Division and regimental cavalry units had one per troop and at bn. Can't speak to other units. Combat Engineer battalions likely had them, along with ADA. I will try to get at my FK ST 171-1-1 to see what it says.
Meanwhile, toss them at any units equipped with M551, M113s, M109, (MLRS takes M88), M113-based chassis.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
Wait...there were 5 Sheridans in each platoon? I need another pack of Sheridans! LOL
Thank you for the info PG! I never really thought about units having 2 different types of recovery vehicles, but I guess it makes sense.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
Mike, I like your Abrams camo, really very nice.
Yes, 5 Sheridan’s per platoon. As I recall, Shield/Storm, 3 Sheridan’s would be armed w/ gun or missile rounds and 2 with the other. The charge of the gun would mess up the ability to use missiles.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
Thanks, Fellas! I appreciate the support!
Just a quick update on my cav refurb effort. I'm a little over halfway done with A Troop. So far 1st, 2nd, and 4th platoons are complete, plus the XO's and 1SG's tracks, the command track, and the mortar section.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
Mike, awesome, I really do like the camo colors of your Abrams a few posts ago.
You are an OVER-achiever, with both HMGs & LMGs on the Abrams. Look great.
So do the UH-60.great work for the windows.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
I see no reason why your M551 company wouldn't have been reorganized to conform to the J series TOE 4-tank platoons, although there may be good reason to retain the 5-vehicle strength. Just remember, it's YOUR company. Organize it how you wish.

Re: Joint Task Force Pope
Thanks Chris!
You're right, PG! And I think I'll stick with the 14-tank companies for the Sheridan. At least for now!
I just finished another piece of the ACR project, but this unit has no GHQ vehicles in it. This is the 629th Military Intelligence Company and it was3D printed, with minimal kit-bashing for the Prophets and the UAV launchers. I used spare mast sites from AH-64Ds for the Prophet antenna, but it's too big. Right shape, just wrong size. The next Prophets I do will have the correct size antenna!
