Seaspan has finalized their design for the new low cost Cruiser program based on the British Country Class guided missile destroyers.
with the 4 forward box launchers mounting the Naval Strike missiles. While the side and rear rail launchers still fire their Sea Cat and Sea Slug missiles. it will be built in batches of 2 each. construction starts this week.

Don’t waste the capital to design, evaluate, build, then scrap.
Just buy off the shelf. Over the years, NC jumps in, abandons a project.
Big rabbit hole costing the NC taxpayers tons of $$$.

It was decided by the RCN and the NC military as a whole they will not pursue any further R&D into new projects following the string of project failures over the years instead they will buy off the shelf to fill in their forces. Granted this decision will hurt the domestic defence industry in the long run. but they will be modified to suit the weapons our military is currently using. Sea span will continue to build the county class destroyers to replace the two Ticonderoga cruisers but no more will be built. All further Type 21s will be halted. for the Army, General Dynamics NC has halted development of the Grizzly SPH. as the artillery units will aquire South Korean K9s to replace their M109s instead. The Navy will buy the 4 Dutch De Zeven Provinciën class Frigates, and the Anzac frigates from Australia once they are retired.

This will become known as the Great New Canadian Defence Research Crash of 2026.

Hmmm... Or you could decide to build partial or full kit under license so that your military industrial base does not crash. Then you could use this time to hire and train brighter and better people for future development programs.... That could limit the amount of people that need to be taken out behind the snow mobile shed to be shot... LOL... just saying.. the Canadian population is not that large..

Besides, its not like this constant cycle of considering, testing and ultimate cancelling a piece of equipment was limited to domestically acquired kit..... Maybe at a hire degree, but certainly not limited.....

For the time being during this Crash. All manufacturers will be limited to performing maintenance on units already built for the military and modify any used ones that was purchased off the shelf elsewhere.

While the R&D department will be shut down, so it goes through a huge restructuring and reorganization, it will feature a new quality control department, where a team of bureaucrats will check over the work of a project part by part to make sure it’s up to good quality standards. If a part is not up to standard, it will be discarded and started all over again.

Another called The project evaluation committee created in cooperation with The ministry of finance, Industry New Canada, Defense procurement agency, the ministry of science and technology. And Health New Canada (for Medical proposals only), will take sole responsibility of all proposals coming in both military and civilian, and they will do a deep evaluation to determine if such ideas are even possible or not, and how much will it cost to develop it. This way it will ensure better financial and Industrial security if a project is deemed too difficult to implement or develop it will be rejected before it even reached any manufacturer.

Really Mech?!?! Your writing the story... that's the best. Your basically saying that the only competent people are bureaucrats. If they were competent, they would be running there own company and making truck loads of money.. Then that is saying that there are no competent companies or skilled labor in all of Canada that can actually do the work...

You could go with this premise that the company did a comprehensive study to find that current process/Methods and training were found to be inadequate. As a result the company has set out to improve process, increase training and made an effort to recruit highly skilled talent to fill gaps in the current staff.

in another program that would help end the crash, in cooperation with New Canada's Ministry of Education, the R&D department is setting up a new Labour and trades board in colleges and universities across the country where the candidates go though a strict screening process done by the bureaucrats from the ministry to determine who they will hire with the necessary trades and skills needed for the jobs needed in the defence industry. This plan will hopfully see good quality workers in the industry thus improving the quality of the projects.

Meanwhile two retired Anzac class frigates was recently purchased from Australia with the option to buy the rest of the class as they are being decommissioned, they will be reconfigured for NC use by Seaspan. Replacing the MK 41 VLS with the French 8 cell Sylver A35s firing Seacat missiles, and the quad tube harpoons with Naval Strike Missiles. the two ships will be renamed HMCS Fraser, and HMCS Mckenzie.

NCSIS made a horrifying report that the Karmanaskis navy has in excess of 100 ships in their fleet. all of them are Chinese in origin, the RCN will have to rapidly expand the fleet to counter this threat however with the R&D crash still ongoing, more used ships will have to be quickly bought to fill in the ranks. The new river class for the 2030s will be made up of used Anzac frigates from Australia.

the King George the V Battleship HMCS R.B Bennett has just got out of her slipway after a long refit, we could not find her original super firing twin as it was lost sometime ago, but in its place is a mix of 3 4 cell Sylver A35s for Seacat missiles, and 4 8 cell A70s for Naval strike missiles. pictured being escorted by a flotilla of Kingston class Patrol ships, all too where modified with their own VLS systems a single 8 Cell Sylver A70 carrying Naval Strike missiles, replacing its minesweeping equipment .


The R&D department has made a overhaul regarding the handling of Experimental Projects and Prototype testing, in accordance with a recent Bill NC 1959 and other changes done last week. There will be Government bureaucrats from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance< Ministry of Defence, and Health Canada (for Medical Projects only) will be overseeing the progression of new projects from the R&D department for now on. should it prove that it will become a problem that it will be difficult to solve, the finance minister will pull funding on said project, before it even left the drawing board thus saving money. The NC government will not support projects done, by autonomous organizations like Skunkworks, due to potential security issues. and they will be shut down.

The Pacific Patrol has returned back to CFB Prince Rupert after concluding its trip. the RCN officers to give out their reports of the Type 21 frigates performance, despite not getting the chance to try out its Naval Strike Missiles at the ROD firing range, but the sinkex earlier had proven it worked. an Atlantic Patrol is being setup for after Canada Day. But this time Pax Global Tours, would like to have one of their liners to be in the patrol as part of a new sailing with heroes cruise deal. at this point HMCS Canada will be ready for sailing.
