Paul, thanks for the picture. It's a nice model. Still not sure it's worth the price though

Bringing this back from the depths of the archive... Here is the latest from JMSDF its their Helicopter Destroyer that just moved to its new Home Port here in Yokosuka. Pretty impressive ship and I can't wait to get a tour if I can figure out how to accomplish that.

No one makes a model of it in 1/2400 yet, but I'm hopeful that will change in the near future.

Nice, the Hyuga. I hope for a 1/700 model as well, while having in mind the latest activities on the 1/2400 market I see a good chance for such a model.
Thanks for keeping this topic alive.

Kind regards,
Ben

For any fans of time travel stories (and particularly anime fans), a really good series to check out is Zipang. This 26 episode anime series is about a modern JMSDF Aegis class destroyer that gets sent back to June, 1942 just before the battle of Midway. Excellent depiction of the advantages of modern weapon systems - unlike Final Countdown this ship eventually gets into the thick of the action.

Helicopter destroyer?! Sure looks like an aircraft carrier to me! ...better update that constitution Japan. I guess pretty much every ship in the Japanese navy is a type of destroyer now. Let's just call them what they are, she's a carrier, and the Kongo's are cruisers.

I saw an innocent little article in Newsweek magazine that the Chinese are training 50 aviators to learn flight ops for carriers, the plan being to convert that big ex-Soviet carrier they bought years back. The one they told the world they would use as a floating casino.

Hope Japan plans on buying some F-35's for that "destroyer" of theirs, because China is really starting to get bold, right as we in the west get weak.
