You spend the points for a BMP not to fight the other side's tanks but to move your infantry across the battlefield.

A combined arms element would contain both tanks to kill other tanks and APCs to kill other APCs and most importantly to move your infantry across the battlefield.

As we used to say when I was in the infantry..."You don't own a piece of ground until an infantrymen plants the sold sign."
