TDs all over the workbench....

I really was hoping to get them done in time for Memorial Day. My father, gone now for more than 25 years, served in tank destroyers in WW2, and I thought it might be a nice remembrance to get a TD unit up on Memorial Day. But alas, it was not to be.

However, I now have at least some of them done. So I present my lovely GHQ M36s, as a preview to when I have the full TD company completed.

Image
I put two crewmen in each turret as: 1) the gunner would likely have been so low in the turret as not to be seen, and 2) I'm lazy and not putting 3 in was easier.

The crew figures are GHQ standing gun crews, or kneeling gun crews from a UK vendor, supplemented by a few standing soldiers from the extras bin, and a few two-together mortar crew figures from GHQ en bloc style support weapons packs.

I have some old M36B1s (the M36 turret mounted on an M4A3 Sherman hull), but I really don't see them getting much use. So these are likely to become a core part of my anti-armor capabilities for any ETO battles after the Normandy campaign.

Image
The M36s come with a pretty good bit of detailing on the hulls already. Crates and growsers on the sides, a towing cable strung front-to-back along one side of the hull, and a full set of tanker's tools on the rear hull. Altogether a very nice model.

Image
Each of the turrets got at least one, and some got two various stowage items. This was my first time using vendor-made castings for external stowage. I'm not sure it's any easier than the rolled foil approach I took for my Pershings a few months ago. But it does make it possible to have more variety in the stowage.

Now if we could just find some big kitties to beat up on ....

Hi Mk1

Those TDs look great! I have a number of M-10s, M-18s, and M-36 of both types that I need to get around to painting one of these days. Thanks for sharing!

Nice Mark. The M36s look cool with the crew members. Adds to the model for sure.

Its funny as Im having a flash back. I had a buddy playing with a few Tigers on the board thinking he was invincible. M36s came online (entered the board) and he asks if the model/barrel is accurate… yes…

Changed the entire complexion of the game. Lol He watched what he did now instead of being sloppy with his Tiger movements.

Well if we want to talk about flashbacks ...

I went back to the early pages of this thread on this forum, and found where I said, in December of 2005, that I wanted to put crew figures into my US TDs.

https://www.ghqmodels.com/forum/viewtop ... &start=330

Oy.

And Pete, you and I were already forum buddies at that time. That time 15 years ago!

And these M36s were actually bought from Troy Ritter, an ubermeister of 1/285 wonderfulness back in the early days of this forum. Ritter, along with so many other contributors to this thread (and the many other threads) taught me and encouraged me and my skills, and my enjoyment of the hobby, move forwards by leaps and bounds. And then he wandered away to larger scales and I bought out some of his unpainted inventory, which is now present here and hopefully done in some justice to their prior owner.

Wow. Talk about flashbacks.

And man-o-man, I sure am SLOW at doing the projects I say I'm gonna do!

Hi Mark

Don't feel bad about getting stuff done later than anticipated. That seems to my thing as well.

I am currently working on finishing up some ISU-122s that I have had sitting on nails for several years now. Recently, I finished up 6 German trucks and prime movers I started back in 2012.

I have been trying to complete some of these various projects that I started from years ago although I have my eye on some new projects as well.

Better late than never, I guess.

Ben,
Nice looking trucks, very nice on the terrain.
BTW, send them over to Ukraine, we need the logistic support.

Very nice! What color did you use for your tanks and BMPs? Does Batman get an initiative bonus for having superhero reflexes? He looks great!

Thanks Redleg. I'm using the Reaper Master Series paint triad of olive shadow, olive drab. and worn olive. I'm pretty sure Batman always goes first and will "handle" all my soviet armor without any help. :)
