Good call.PostHumanRepublican wrote:I havn't considered selling cast parts but that is mostly because I am casting someone else's property.
If you want to know what sort of trouble you can get in, try to track down Chris Croissant from Croissant Miniatures / In Service Miniatures.
I worked for the guy briefly as a master miniature maker in the mid 1980's until it became evident to me what he was doing ... taking GHQ (and other) miniatures and "modifying" them and then recasting them and selling them as his own. I did some original pieces for him, but it did not take me long to figure out what he was up to and we went our separate ways.
Most people won't bother you if you are re-purposing their work for your own personal use (usually they'd never know, really) ... but once you start selling it, it's a whole new game.

Yeah exactly. I love GHQ and wouldn't even think of doing that to them. It is just wrong on so many levels. Bite the hand that feeds and maybe that hand won't be able to afford to feed you a Patriot missile system lol.
At any rate any part I have ever cast from any company was always for my own personal use and are always very small smarts such as, in this case, a fuel tank and a cupola. Even though I have the ability to, I would never cast entire vehicles and use them for several reasons. 1- It's stealing. 2- GHQ's models would look better. 3- Pretty sure GHQ would still be cheaper at $2 a hull because mould making and casting is not cheap. Even small parts such as the cranes and winches, I refuse to cast because I will just buy another pack when I'm ready to make the next 3 Nemmeras. The company works hard and they've earned every cent that heads their way.

Happy Halloween!

Wasn't going to post this, its rather crude compared to the other work here, but I figured "What the hey."
Done in response to a bat suggestion from Gompel after I did the German Shepherds
The camera is not kind. They look like birds from this angle. May paint them grey and create a WW1 scenario where you hunt messenger pigeons with planes

I like where this is going. Didn't the Japs look into attaching bombs to bats in WWII because bats would work themselves into the crevasses of buildings? Now aircraft can engage your batbombs and they will explode when hit.

I'm not a fan of politically correct speech normally ... but I'm pretty sure we don't call them "Japs" anymorePostHumanRepublican wrote: Didn't the Japs look into attaching bombs to bats in WWII...

??? What do we call them then? I was unaware "Jap" was derogatory. And if it is derogatory, why? It's just short for Japanese. I'm so confused right now.

Referring to the WWII Japanese as Japs is not a big deal to me, but it is derogatory in many uses such as "dirty japs"... "nips" is definitely not good, but I do not thinks "Japs" is much worse than "Yanks", "Limeys", or "Krauts". Personally I never use any of these terms and always use "the Japanese"...

From Wikipedia ... they seem mixed on the topic.
Jap is an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese." Today it is generally regarded as an ethnic slur among Japanese minority populations in other countries, although English-speaking countries differ in the degree to which they consider the term offensive. In the United States, Japanese Americans have come to find the term controversial or offensive, even when used as an abbreviation.[1] In the past, Jap was not considered primarily offensive; however, during and after the events of World War II, the term became derogatory.[2]

Cama,
I'm certainly not bothered, it just seemed odd seeing the word. I think the last time I heard it used was by my father ... and he's got a lot of other doozies he likes to use too. I can't be out in public with him anymore
Anyways, it's all good. Didn't mean to start anything, that's for sure. I love everyone on this forum ... it's my favorite hangout.

Totally aside from the politically-incorrect ethnic epithets:
The WWII 'bat bomb' concept was a US project intended for use against the Japanese. It was a credible idea - think of thousands of small thermite igniters in the eaves of the wooden buildings common in Japanese cities. It was never used in combat but on one occasion a test in the US resulted in the bats flying to a nearby military base instead of the intended test targets.

Oh was it the US? I just remember seeing something about them planning to fly over a city and dump out a whole load of batbombs. There were some really funky ideas during the war.

The Japanese had incendiary balloons intended to start forest fires.
The term 'Nip' is a contraction of Nippon, Japanese for Japan.
Like all slang terms for a people (like Yanks, Poms etc) it largely depends on whether they refer to themselves that way, and on what terms. Aussies call themselves Aussies and have no problem with other people doing the same. African Americans use the 'N' word among themselves, and are highly offended if anyone else does.
In short, these terms are very context specific, so it is generally easier to just not use them.

Here's a web page explaining the project.

Now for my next useless project I will make the British "Iceberg Aircraft Carrier".

I heard about that thing too. This keeps getting better and better. Wait..what if the iceburg aircraft carrier maintained a flight of kamikaze batbombs for its carrier air wing?
