1/300th & 1/285th Compatability

Hi ya guys,

Have just ordered some GHQ African Brushfire Warriors. Just wondering is there a noticble difference between H&R in size. Thinking of a Skirmish between H&R Royal Marines and Brushfire warriors in a hypothetical battle.

You will probably find that the GHQ figures are a bit larger (taller). You will also find that they are significantly better in detail and casting quality.

If you are modelling dioramas that will be inspected under powerful zoom lenses you will notice a significant difference. But if you are gaming ... well I mix GHQ and "Brand X" infantry fairly frequently. On the game board. Within a unit. Even on the same stand. Never had a gamer turn away my units for it.


This is a picture of some of my WW2 Italians. The Combat Command came with 2 47mm AT guns, but no gun crews. So my gun crews (the kneeling figures) are "Brand X" WW2 Soviet gun crewmen. All other figures, and the guns themselves, are GHQ. Except for the LMG gunner's No2. See below.


In this picture the great majority of the force is GHQ. But between a Combat Command and a pack of individual infantry, I didn't get enough LMGs for a 1-to-1 unit scale company. So some of the LMGs (the ones which lack the detail of the ammo visibly sticking out the right side) are actually WW2 Italian "Brand X" LMGs. Also there were no gunner's No2s in the GHQ infantry. So the gunner's No2s mated to the GHQ LMGs are Modern Soviet "Brand Y" Sagger gunners (who are notably thinner and smaller, and hold nothing in their hands), and the No2s mated to the "Brand X" LMGs are WW2 French "Brand Z" prone riflemen (who are actually larger and more "chunky" relative to the GHQ infantry, but you might notice them more for their greatcoats -- and for me more importantly it looks like they are holding something, which could be interpreted as an ammo strip, up to the LMGs).

I wanted an all GHQ unit, but didn't get all the figures and poses that I needed in the GHQ packs. These were what I had in the extra's bin that were close enough when I was finishing up the unit.

Can you tell? If you get close enough, you can. Does it stop me from enjoying a game? Not a chance.

Thanks for the info, i personally can't see any difference, but then again i'm blind as a bat.
Just need GHQ to produce Modern British inf in berets, then i'll be happy.
Still will use H&R Royal Marines Vs GHQ African militia.

I mix GHQ, and Heroics and Ros/Navwar on the same platoon stand. Here's a close up of some Brits. The front rank are both GHQ. The back two are H&R.
