I'm trying to help a friend with his generic Soviet style Third World force, for which he has purchased a modern Russian Combat Command, but I find that my knowledge of Russian infantry weapons is severely limited.
If anyone could tell me what this guy is holding:
It looks to be some sort of Russian version of the LAW 72, but I had no clue they made such a thing.
Also, is it a weapon that is carried by squads or in dedicated units at the platoon or company level?
You are right it is a LAW style weapon. It is a RPG-18 or RPG-22 (I think no one will be able to see a difference in this tiny scale) - just google them to see the original.
The Russians and Chinese were both big on knocking off our weapons and equipment where it is cheaper to do so, than to design their own.
Just last night, a saw news clip from China, where their military are working to reduce pressure on the landslide dams. A Sikorski Blackhawk helicopter flew away from a group of soldiers, it did not have US markings on it, so I am to assume, as dangerous as that is, they either bought it (which is probably the case) or have made a copy.
