DAK Uniform color,

Post by dougeagle »

Hi all,

I'm currently working on some German armour for North Africa and have been doing some research on the net for the tropical color for the clothing that the infantry wore. It has been suggested that they were of a tropical color, almost green and am having hard time trying to find the right color that would be suitable for this scale (GHQ size).

Can or does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey Doug, German Uniform Afrika Korp: HUMBROL 72 or 84 with white added. So many choices, 72 is a good start. Various shades available by adjusting the amount of white.

Not too sure on the other brands out there.

These DAK infantry from the other guys are painted with Model Master Afrika Khaki Braun RAL 7008 for their caps and trousers and their tunics are Model Master Afrika Grun Braun RAL 8000. I don't know if they are the "correct" colors but they came out looking pretty good colorwise anyway.

Finding the "correct" colors for DAK can be pretty difficult. There were several uniform options and the color varied by manufacturer and how long the piece of clothing was exposed to the sun.

Most any faded khaki/feldgrey/ochre colors can be used.
I wish I had something witty to say...

Hi Pitfall,
I agree : it's difficult (but fun).
And about the following :
"Most any faded khaki/feldgrey/ochre colors can be used."
Agreed again , and, IMO, even if this is not absolutely "right" different shades of olive green can be used too ;
Following these lines here is a DAK group in a kind of "rag and tag" uniform :
