Musashi & Yamato

Was looking into the Leyte Gulf battles and was wondering if anyone new if the GHQ model for BB Musashi (IJN43) was appropriate to be used for BB Yamato for 1944 battles?

I wasn't sure if the secondary and AA batteries were correct for both Musashi and Yamato for 1944 in the GHQ BB Musashi model (IJN43).

Can anyone advise me on this?

Yamato has the secondary battery of 4 triple 155mm guns (4x3) as when she was completed in December 1941. Musashi has the armament of her 1944 guise. It would be more accurate to substitute another Musashi for the Yamato than vice versa.
To each his own, however as they mount the same main battery and are of the same size.

I strongly recommend IJN43 for Yamato as in 1944 battles. IJN15 models Yamato as she was finished, with four triple 6" mounts and six twin 5" mounts. By March, 1944, the two amidships 6" mounts had been removed and replaced with an additional six twin 5" mounts, as modeled by IJN43.

I have two of each model, using IJN15 for both Yamato and Musashi up through the end of 1943 and IJN43 for both after early 1944.

OK, so the IJN15 BB Yamato model will work for both Yamato and Musashi through the end of 1943. But were both of these battleships built exactly the same "originally" when they were commissioned and then they maintained this similarity through 1943?

I figured I would throw my two cents worth in. Based on multiple references, I can find no significant difference between Yamato and Musashi until after the beam 6.1" turrets were removed in the fall of 1943. Apparently, due to a shortage of the 5" AA guns, Yamato mounted a grand total of 24 - 5" guns and Musashi only mounted 12 - 5" guns. There were differences in the amount of smaller caliber AA weapons...but in 1/2400th scale I am not going to split hairs...or go blind trying to count them. Bottom line : use the Yamato model for early war scenarios and the Musashi model for late war scenarios. I am guessing that had the Japanese decided to / and were able to complete Shinano as a battleship it would be closer in appearance to the Musashi model.

Hi All,
Has anyone else noticed the errors in the Yamato & Musashi Logsheets for the 1944 versions?
The Yamato shows the 24 x 5' Secondaries (tertiary?) as 4 boxes of "P3" and 4 of "S3" these should be 6 boxes of "P2" and 6 of "S2". The '44 version of the Musashi has the correct number of boxes but each should be labeled "P2" and "S2" respectively.
I suspect the '44 Yamato was labeled as such for space reasons but the "44Musashi is simply a typo.
