Air Combat in MATG

Post by Vann Harl »

Hey guys,
I'm hoping I can a bit of brief explanation of how Aircraft are handled in the game.

1. Is there a mechanic for Air to Air combat? if yes does it work the same as ground combat?

2. How is movment resolved with aircraft on the table? (what is the move distance? How long do aircrat stay on the table?)

3. How does straffing/ dive bombing work? for instance does an aircraft stand attack more than one stand at a time?

4. Typically how many aircraft units would you see on a table - (yeah ok this may be a bit broad.)

Appreciate the info
Cheers

Hi Vann Harl,
Air rules in MATG focused on aircraft effects on ground battles so there are no AtoA rules in MATG. Mechanics can be developed by scenario designers or players to determine the status of air superiority at the time of a given scenario though.

air to ground attacks are covered in the rules and they are basically a more complicated form of indirect artillery fire. On board AA guns can drive planes off before they attack but basically its indirect fire. planes are given values which allow them to bomb or strafe.Strafes may hit one target, bombing may hit up to 3.

aircraft are purchased, like other types of weapons, during the scenario design process so it really depends on the scenario as to how many may be used in a game. In my gaming experience there are usually not many as they slow the game down and are more complicated to use. They are fun though.
