Love the Su-30! And happy to see the different types of armament. Maybe next year, we’ll get a Su-34 to go with it? 🤪

Yes modern fighters in 1/285th are really big, the size of B-17s.

That makes them expensive and heavy, meaning they're difficult to mount on stands for gaming.

Hence (dare I say it here) I've been collecting 1/600th scale modern planes.

They're a quarter of the weight and hence cheaper and easier to mount.

Just wish GHQ did 1/600th as well.

Actually, since weight is proportional to the cube of linear measurement, a 1/600-scale model should weigh about 11% of a corresponding 1/285-scale model (assuming similar density of material, etc.).

However the canards, wings, tail-plane and fins would need to be proportionally 30-40% thicker for the manufacturing process of the reduced size of the model.
On a design such as the SU-30 that could equate into a reduction to only 24-27%.

You can do anything with percentages, 76.2% of people will tell you that

Sorry Don I raised a few toasts after the service this morning.
No more typing today for me.

I use a lot of 1/600 scale aircraft as well. For air-to-air action I don't need to scale it against ground vehicles. Plus I can but an entire squadron of planes for the same price as a single 1/285 scale fighter. Quality isn't the same though - you get what you pay for!
