Hope all is well. Sorry for your troubles. Prayed for you.
BTW, what is the warning?
You are welcome to step up. We look forward to an AAR, painting info, display and/or pictures, etc. Anything, well prefer good stuff.
I'm participating in the UIN, I have posted pictures.
So show us some old painting, old game....etc.

Hey Fireball - good to see you back - even if you've gotten batted about the head a bit!
There have been a few things posted covering actual wargaming particularly by Polish GI but, some others as well.
It's been sporadic though...

This forum is now a place where people write lousy screenplays filled with insignificant, needless, meaningless details. I'm not referring to this thread, but rather the state of imagi-nations.

I'mn sorry to hear about your troubles, Fireball. I haven't been on here in ages and havne't painted anything in a long time either. I broke my glasses and need surgery on both eyes. I've been using a magnifier and squinting really hard to see. I'll be painting and posting again in a few months, hopefully.

Fireball, I hope things work out for you, whether Wife returns or not. As a guy who spent some time as a housdad while my wife finished up her military career, I would say that the kids are a blessing and you can handle it, maybe better than your wife. Washing machines, dishwashers, and such things are machines and chemicals, and guys can do that. There were times when my wife was away for extended periods. Yeah, you have extra chores, but get kids involved where they are old enough - they need to know how anyway. For the ones who are not old enough yet, make them security officer (check doors and windows closed and locked before leaving house and before bedtime) and utility officer (turn off lights not being used and before bedtime, unplug unused appliances). That way, all are pitching in. Older ones can help with cooking, dishes, laundry, and vacuuming. Rotate the jobs. Stress working as a team and unity to alleviate, to a degree, insecurity anxieties due to your wife's absence. I ASSURE you that, even with infirmities, you can survive and thrive without a wife who would rather be elsewhere. Just get organized and supervise. 1. Define the mission. 2. Define the tasks. 3. Train the tasks. 4. Allocate the tasks and resources. 5. Supervise and critique (CRITIQUE, not criticize. Encourage your kids. keep it positive. NO SPANKING, NO YELLING, NO BELITTLING. They need and deserve your support, leadership, and encouragement, particularly doing things they might not be accustomed to doing. No yelling, no chewing out (Hey, I had Army drill sergeants who got through the entire cycle without raising their voices). Remember, you understand a lot more about why your wife is away than they do. You must be the adult. Eat together, take walks together, watch a couple selected tv programs together (nightly Star Trek series reruns worked really well for us, AFTER HOMEWORK). Show the kids you are all still a family. I started with newborns and the youngest just finished college. My kids turned out GREAT! Very responsible adults now. And I am finally catching up on thirty years' lost sleep. But WE DID IT! Not bad for a former tanker, but tankers can do ANYTHING! So can you.
Yep, the forum is pretty sad. I imagine most have migrated to Facebook. I don't like FB.

Imaginary Nations
I don't partake of this imaginary nation thing going on, nor do I really understand what it is, however, that being said, I don't see it as such a bad thing.
The US Army, where the tradition of 1:285 modern wargaming originated, frequently conducts exercises involving fictional countries.
How many of us have survived the dusty battles in Krasnovia? I have fought in Hondo as well, and many of us are veterans of Pineland and other places.
So it is clearly professional to wargame in made up nations!

I don't have a problem with the concept. It is the execution currently, and I am not referring to most of the participants. I have partixipated in Army Dunn Kempf games, mostly, due to my age, in the Fulda Gap, before we had to pretend we weren't wargaming the Warsaw Pact. ROD, redleg and others do just fine. I can poke CofC and enjoy that. I'just not going to dance in New Canada.

Giving the kids responsibility around the house reminds them they are contributing participants in an operating family and gives them a stake in making it go. It is their investment. If they invest in it, they want to see it succeed and appreciate it more. It may be a long term investment, but it is important they have a role.
I'm not able to paint at the moment, I don't wargame, and I've discussed most of my interests, beaten all the dead horses, and no others have not come up, so I don't have much to contribute. My limited interest in imagi-nations is expended. I visit the forum to check for content, examine the catalogue, see the new stuff, and check the specials. I am researching U.S. TOEs of armor, cavalry, and mech units from 1945-1972 and studying the Cold War, hunkering down until the insanity of our federal government passes (or I pass first, whichever).

Hey Fireball, I broke my glasses cleaning them. Guess I shouldn't have hulked out but was planning on replacing them anyway as I was having trouble seeing. Turns out though that that was my eyes and I need surgery to see properly. Internet via magnifying glass gets rough and no painting. And my living room had a minor flood so also no time. Can't afford the $2k per eye surgery yet though. But once I'm up I'll be posting work again. I have a lot finished but can't see to photograph it.
And i hope things work out for you and the kids. I hope your wife and you can work it out but if not, be well and enjoy life as you can, man.
I too would like to see more content. The imaginatiions are interesting and even fun but would like a moderator conversing with the players to set a storyline. But htat's just me.

FB, I got a pack of business card sheets, printed them up with things like "10 minutes tv", "10 minutes gaming time," one milk credit, one initiative credit, 1 attaboy (attagirl), dishes credit, etc. I had three boys, so yours might be different for girls, and I don't know their ages. Also cards for making their beds, changing sheets, vacuuming a room. I set up guidelines, figured out how many hours I would allow per week of tv, gaming, sleepover, etc. I gave each a box to keep their cards in and gave each a basic issue of cards. I had the reward cards and a box to receive cards so they would be organized as I collected them for the following week. If they wanted to watch tv, they had to turn in a "homework complete" card, plus the 10-minutes of tv" cards (up to an hour per day). If they didn't have the cards no tv. If they misbehave or didn't perform their chores, I fined them from their privilege cards, so they might run out of cards before the end of the week. A temper tantrum in the toy store was an hour's tv or gaming cards and we left the store IMMEDIATELY. I didn't count to three, I didn't give second chances, but I also didn't yell, spank, send them to their rooms, stand them in a corner. If they did something exceptional, I could reward with extra cards. Attaboy cards were worth 30 minutes of privilege cards. THIS WORKED 100 PERCENT. The boys knew the expectations. I could correct, critique, without losing my patience, there was no parental "bullying," and infinitely better than rewarding with money, too. It took a little work with the computer and about a week to work out some kunks. It took three milk cards to have soda, so every time they had a glass of milk, they got a card, but only one soda per day, Guys. Easier on children, easier on parents. I didn't even have to fine them much. Room not cleaned? That'll cost you 8 tv cards and 4 gaming cards, Son. I'm sure, with a little imagination, you can come up with some really great privilege and reward cards. Some cards are issued as a weekly basic load, some issued in performance. Didn't earn 7 "made bed in morning" cards? Oops, only 6 hours worth of tv for the following week. Earned an on-the-spot attaboy card? 30 minutes worth of extra gaming or tv cards the following week. Excess cards to be turned in, cards to be reconciled, and the new basic load issued on Saturday. You need a utilities princess and a security princess, as well as a safety princess, duties to be rotated. Laundry princesses can rotate roles of collecting, washing, drying, folding, and stowing.

I guess its like carving duck decoys. I've never met anyone younger than 50 who does that.nashorn88 wrote:Sure seems like only a bunch of us old timers are collecting or playing micro armor?
Anyone under 25 on this forum?
I’m alway amazing to find users sell collections on eBay from estate sales. Shows that no one in family wanted it or even knew what to do with them.
Okay, to be fair I've only met two people who do that. But still.
