Missing Pieces of the Puzzle

Post by 8ball »

Despite the fact that GHQ offers an astoundingly thorough line of military miniatures, there are still a number of significant gaps, or missing pieces, that inhibit gaming certain very important periods and/or battles. So I thought it might be interesting to compile a list of some of these, and perhaps GHQ will take notice.

Note: This is not another wishlist thread. Let's try to limit our obsevations to key systems that are absent from important conflicts, and for which there are no adequate substitutions.

Post your entry, and make your case. Limit, one per poster, please.

Israeli Infantry and Weapons circa late 60s to mid 70s.

The Six-Day and theYom Kippur wars were perhaps the most important land conflicts since WWII. GHQ has it pretty well covered as far as tanks are concerned, but there's no infantry. The modern Israeli minis that GHQ offers bear no resemblance to the Israeli soldiers of that time.

Late 60s to mid 70s Israeli infantry is a very important missing piece needed for recreating the Arab-Israeli wars of that time period.

1. CVL Hosho. Although not in the thick of it, you can't run a complete Midway campaign without it.

2. CL Tama. This ship was of the Kuma class and fought in the Battle of the Komandorski Islands. This battle is unique as being the largest daylight surface battle in the Pacific during World War II. Two Kuma class light cruisers were the famous Kitakami and Oi with a gazillion torpedo tubes each, and GHQ carries and example of this, but GHQ does not include a regular Kuma class CL without the extra torpedo tubes. Tama would be one such ship.

I am beginning work on a U.S./NATO campaign in Afghanistan - Operation Enduring Freedom - 1 to 1 at the company level. One particular vehicle stands out as being unavailable from any manufacturer - the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) or better known as the new 7 ton truck issued to the Marine Corps.

...every now and then I get an urge to do 73 Hastings,or similar time and area. Now we do not have any "Dolly Parton" T72 (or is it T74s?). It seems that this would be a "missing" system...

OK, not a wish list but these are major gaps:
1) Impossible to effectively game the Kriegsmarine without the Lutzow and the Admiral Scheer.
2) Impossible to effectively game the Regia Marina up to Matapan without the CA Pola.
3) Impossible to effectively game the Italian Med. convoys from fall 1942 on without Gabbiano class corvettes.
4) Bersagliere motorcycle troops. Used on all fronts.

I'd like to second that one.

If the Ju-87G-1 Stuka that GHQ makes had included parts to convert it into a Ju-87D-2 dive bomber then I'd be happy. But the Stuka is synonimous with Blitzkreig warfare and yet for some reason I cannot understand, GHQ does not produce this most famous aircraft that was deployed everywhere. The G model did not come out until 1943 and made its debut at Kursk in extremely small numbers - only the 10th staffel of a Stukageschwader was outfitted with this ground attack version. The other nine staffeln would have been equipped with Doras in the dive bomber role. More significant would be to produce the Ju-87B-1 or B-2 model as these were the dive bombers employed in the early years when the Blitzkreig reigned supreme. I can only wonder what everyone else is using to fill this gap. No German WWII collection is complete without the infamous Stuka dive bomber.

Please GHQ, put this on your hot list!

@ Azure:

You will find the PzH-2000 on the new/future release list :D .

I would like to see a ARV for modern UK, Challenger ARRV or Warrior MRRV (maybe both in a set  ).

Cheers Ben

Just my 2 cents worth: M-4A2 Sherman, USMC (w/wading kit would be nice), WW2 USMC, and WW2 Paratroopers (inf. & heavy weaps.)

One addition to the WW II British line I would like to see is the Churchill Crocodile.

This monster is very useful in scenarios where the British infantry must clean out German pill boxes and bunkers.

GHQ already makes the Churchill VII so all that needs to be done in the casting of the fuel trailer and a modification to the bow MG.

Thanks
