Well, I think the Question of “what system is bestâ€￾ is a question that can’t really be answered.

I Mean, its really going to depend on your personal preference. What is it that interests you about the subject? Are you into the History? Or is it the Equipment? Or the strategy used? I Honestly don’t think that any one game system is perfect in all respects. I happen to be of the opinion that games like “mein panzerâ€￾ and “Flames of warâ€￾ are far to simple,(for my personal taste) while games like “challengerâ€￾ sit at the opposite end of the equation. But that’s just MY opinion based on what I personally like.

Personally, I Like GHQs older 1980s era system “tank chartsâ€￾. It has virtually no history on the war; forcing the GM to do a little research. It’s mainly just an attempt to give you something to recreate ww2 tank battles with. Of course its not at all perfect, its missing certain vehicles and weapons data, that I would like to see, and the game designer has apparently dropped off the face of the earth, which means he’s not available to clarify. But it’s the game system that I personally prefer over all others. But that doesn’t make it the “BESTâ€￾ system to use for everyone else.

GHQs Current system, is supposed to be a game that focuses less on the equipment used and more on the battles themselves. Just as they advertise, its supposed to be a “beer and pretzelsâ€￾ easy to learn and simple ww2 game. Its not supposed to be any kind of definitive record on how thick the amour on a tiger 2 is. Its just supposed to be,, well,

FUN. I like that Idea actually. I think that’s what really matters in a game. That everyone has fun.

GHQs system may not be perfect, but it is supposed to be SIMPLE and FUN.

And these days, considering how hard it is to get new people to the game table, its probably best to stick with the K.I.S.S. system. (keep its simple stupid) No Offence BTW.
Enjoy the war,

Because the Peace Is going to be hell!

got to agree with you there predator06.

You mention to the two sets I use, Challenger for mods and Tank Charts for WWII.

I like them, but as with many I suppose here, we have our own interests and mine is to set up one of the boards with a problem and play solitaire over a month or so. Where I've got to check something either in the rules/charts/historically with other resources then so be it. Currently I'm looking at 'mastering' Harpoon, again, another board on the wall, another set of problems, research etc. This is just my take on wargames, so, this for me is the 'best' and I use the rules that I'm comfortable with or expect detail from.

Good luck mastering Harpoon! I've tried to run the odd PBEM game, pretty unsuccessfully so far. PM me if you're interested.

Best rulesystem for 6mm

For what its worth, I have always played with a set of rules called "Firefly" avilable from Tabletop games in the UK. These are especially designed for WW2 6mm Battallion-sized engagements. The tank rules are particularly good - probably the most realistic I have encountered and certainly better than Panzer March or Combined Arms or anything else in my opinion. The data tables include a lot of accurate data about every tank/gun/aircraft you can think of. The infantry section of the rules is not so good, but they do speed up infantry actions. The artillery rules are good but in an attempt to be realistic, artillery fire can be somewhat slow in arriving. The aircraft rules need a bit of work. The rules are a bit more complex than some others, but you can play a quick game once you get used to them. The rules include army lists as well. All for less than £10.

I always found that tank charts do the best for me and anyone I showed it to.
predator nailed it right on the nose. He and I diced using these rules several times. I believe all micro armor rules are good in there own aspects.

when I was origins this year I was talking to a friend of the HMGS circuit who I found out in our conversation he is a good friend of the author of tank charts...now I am waiting on the contact from him. He has been busy with RL.

I am in the process of making a modern tank charts .... I am in the final stages of the rules which should be done very soon.

Being a micro armor gamer for many of years I still find that no rules cover what it does...<overall> it is just the best game to date even being written a little over 20 years ago.

Last I heard he was lawyering in AZ.
Like the authors of many fine detailed micro armor rules he's from So. Cal. :)
