Eye Candy is now fixed look here. Yes it does have pictures

Post by Its me »

Yes sorry everyone but it has now been fixed with the great help from RedRick for hosting my pictures and others for their guidance.

Thanks everyone.

As before terrain is GHQ terrainmaker with the river made by using a soldering gun on 1/2 inch hexes, static grass and trees Jordan Scenics, buildings from the UK, Rock Outcrop peice of bark from the garden.

Also if anyone is interested send me an email and I will return a copy of Flames of War amendments for micro that I am using.

Oh I also live at the southern tip of New Zealand down on the edge of the southern ocean at a place called Invercargill.

Happy gaming see ya Rex

Rex, that looks great. I am very interested in seeing the FoW modifications that you have made for using them with micro armour. I sent you a private message with my e-mail address. Thanks

Rex,

Very nice! Since I model with Terrain Maker myself, I always enjoy seeing other people's hexes.

And many thanks to Rick for providing the "web space" to host the pictures!!

A question -- I don't really see a bridge crossing your river -- is that a "ford" you've modeled? Would love to see a closer picture.... (hint hint)

Nice Terrian. One question for all you terrian masters how do you get the wheel tracks in the roads? and one more question to. When using terrian maker in a gaming situation what or how do you determine what is a light woods, medium woods or heavy woods? I'm guessing by the number of the trees in a hex?

That is some nice looking terrain Rex! Keep up the good work - and post more pics please.

FMJ

To get the wheel tracks on the roads use a coin or something similar. I use a quarter and a toonie (about the size of a US 50 cent piece) as well as a plastic poker chip with a serrated edge (makes great looking tank tracks).

To differentiate between light, medium , or heavy woods I use a different color flock to cover the ground before I add the trees. This deliniates the boundaries of the wooded area. The trouble with adding trees to the hex is that you need to leave room between them to allow space for both the vehicle/base and your fingers - typically 1 1/2 to 2 inches. This limits how many trees you can place on the hex. For light woods I generally use smaller trees than I would use for medium or heavy woods. If I want to indicate a portion of the woods that is impassible to vehicles then I will place the trees close enough together that a vehicle cannot fit between them. (that's also a nasty trick to use in urban areas - make the space between buildings wide enough for a sherman but too narrow for a tiger or panther)

Hope this helps.

regards

Steve

Thanks for the nice comments guys :D

Re light, medium heavy woods I don't worry about it when I'm making the terrain I just get in a groove and try to make it look nice, as I also to do a lot of SYW and Napoloenic gaming I don't really go there with moving troops into woods. Also the other idea of it take the photos in this case you can say the area of operations is heavily wooded, if it was lightly wooded there would be less and say if i wanted say farm copses then I might sprinle the odd individual hex around with the same effect.

For road ruts I have used the terrain maker instructions and used the base of a normal table knife handle drawn down the tile easy, just two strips either side done, just don't press too hard et the weight of the knife do the work.

Why didn't i follow the terrinmaker instructions for streams and use 1/4'hexes, tried it and didn't like the result so went to the style and tools i have used before.

As for posting more photo too but I that will also be up to Redrick as it is his website they are hosted on and he is doing it from kindness not monetary gain and I donot wish or intend to abuse that.

Have a great weekend everyone mine is going to be basing figures and doing some more tiles.........amongst the household chores for the wife....yeh right
