As previously stated - ad nauseum.

Rework:

US, USSR, Japanese, German infantry packs - US needs MMG and HMGs. (PS, not everyone wore a helmet all the time)
German and USSR winter infantry were dissapointments - there are no greatcoats and the USSR has no riflemen! Throw in some softhats for both sides.
ALL the heavy weapons packs need medium and Heavy Mortars
Get rid of the one guy firing as though he were in the rear rank of a Seven Years War formation!
Should the guy kneeling be as tall as the guy standing?
What is the Japanese Officer doing and why are there so many?

Add:

ATG Gun crews
US Paras
US Winter Greatcoat inf
Open topped vehicle crews for all nations
Koreans for 1950-53 (WITH RIFLES!)

OK - What about finishing the 10mm ACW line since we are making a "wish list".

ACWBill,

For those of us who know practically nothing about it, but are still VERY impressed by the photos you've posted in the past... and if the list isn't too long... what is missing?

Just curious...

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Tom

I wonder if GHQ will do any changes to the figurines already made? I still would like to see different poses of casualties dead and wounded. It would be nice to see more different poses of advancing infantry and guys without helmets and etc, etc, etc.

New GHQ Figures

Post by ltcconard »

I would like to see figures in the same scale as the vehicles. I know that some folks want more detail, but if they get too much bigger, we'll be in to 10mm range :(

Tom, there are hundreds of possibilities not yet made. Take a look at some of the larger scale lines from Redoubt, and OG. Here is a truncated list of some of the items I have posted before but it is FAR from complete:

US infantry in great coats & Forage Caps (at right shoulder shift) IE Fredricksburg
Ragged Confederates IE Hood's Texans
Cavalry in ACTION poses
CS Cavalry with shotguns and pistols and US with Sabres in fighting poses
Iron Brigade in Hardee Hats and Frock Coats with gaiters
US troops in Frock Coat and Kepi
CS Troops in Frock Coat and Slouch Hats
Heavy Coastal Artillery and Crew
US and CS Sailors and naval landing parties
Civilians
More Personalities - Hood, Cleburne, Forrest, Rosecrans, Thomas for the WESTERN theatre!
Troops of all kinds taking hits

In general the infantry and cavalry need to be in better action poses like you'll find in 15mm and 28mm lines. The 10mm Napoleonic Cavalry is done in this manner. Why not ACW?

Hello:
I have never seen the GHQ infantry "in person", but have often read they are way out of scale with the vehicles. Almost 10mm...?
Actually, how big is the scale difference, and are the gunners/arty men as far off as the infantry?
I also have models from the "other American player" in this field, and much of their product seems to be actually a smaller scale than GHQ makes- though both claim to be 1/285... That could be really a bad match, especially the smaller "cannons", and I'm concerned about using figures for open-top vehicle crews for either company...
any comment?

I've used the arty crew on numerous occasions for open-topped vehicles. They are a bit big but I usually cut them off at the knees or waistline before mounting them in the vehicles.

I don't think it is any where near that bad. I know this will put me in direct contradiction to some on the board. I saw a post that railed about how large the infantry was in the German Recon Command pack. One of the things that no one seemed to notice was that the vehicles were not moutned and the infantry were on 3/16" to 1/8" inch stands. If the size difference is something you notice then mount yoru vehicles on the same material you use for yoru infantry.

Last night I placed an unmounted soviet infantry figure next to a T80B. In croutched position his head came to the top of the hull. When I was at Ft Hood looking at real life Soviet armor the hull came up to the top of my shoulders (I'm 5'9") and to my friend's arm pit (he's 6ft) so the scale is not bad.

The new infantry does seem closer to a 6mm scale rather than a true 1/285. But GHQ used to sell a true 1/285 individual figure, and the other guys still do. I remember that you couldn't go one game with out breaking one. They are flimsy as all get out! This scale while a small bit large are much sturdier and paint easily.

Maybe I got used to seeing Infantry a little too tall. My 6mm Napolionics are too large for the buildings but the base is 1/8" thick so people are less likely to pick the stand up by the figure. ( hate that) So maybe my eyes have adjusted.
I pray for Peace on Earth Good will toward men. Till then one round HE fire for Effect!

If you're looking for figures for open topped vehicles I wouldn't use the current line of individual infantry, in my opinion they are too big. What you can use is catalog number US52 Seated US Armored Infantry. These are on the "old" personnel scale, much closer to vehicle scale. The pack has machine gunners, guys with binoculars and clusters of seated soldiers that can be snipped apart for individual seated soldiers.

For infantry, I'd like to see for WWII:
German Rifle Infantry pack
German SMG Infantry pack
German Pioneer Infantry pack (please include early war tank hunters - satchel charges, teller mines, grenade clusters,...)
German Officers/** CENSORED ** pack (officers, radio operators, messengers, staffers...)
German ATG crew pack
German Waffen-SS smock PzGr pack
German vehicle/tank crew pack
- for all of the above, please include a mix of helmets, foraging caps, officer caps,...
Soviet Rifle Infantry pack
Soviet SMG/Tank Rider Infantry pack
Soviet AT troops pack
Soviet ATG crew pack
Soviet Officers/** CENSORED ** pack
Soviet vehicle/tank crew pack
...I better stop there.
I don't want much!

I quite agree on the value of the US52 pack, and the utility of the seated figures when snipped apart. But in my case I have mixed the US52 Seated US Armored Infantry with US85 US Individual Artillery Crewmen with some reasonable success. At least I consider the results to be a success -- they turn out about as good as my skill level can produce.

Here are some examples:

Image
My M3 75mm GMCs in Tunisia livery. Most of the guns have US52's manning them, with the en-bloc seated figures snipped and placed snug under the shield on either side of the gun, but also with one US85 slinging ammo in the back of the track. Some have a US85 as a commander with binocs or pointing/gesturing.

Image
My T19 105mm SPHs also painted for Tunisia. In this case I relied more heavily on US85 figures, with fewer seated gunners. Figured SPH crewmen would be more casual about trying to stay under armor. Also not the MG gunner in the command halftrack.

Image
I've added a crewman to each of my M20 utility cars. Each TD platoon in ETO had two cars. I've configured mine with one car mounting a US52 seated figure as an MG gunner, and the other car mounting a US85 standing figure (binocs or pointing/gesturing) to represent the platoon CO. Thus the position of the crewman helps me keep track of which are actual filling the role of utility/scout cars, and which are command vehicles.

Image
CGErickson (occasionally drops in on this board) got me started adding the artillery crewmen to my models after I had gamed against his excellent German units. His Marders, Hummels, Hornisses etc. all have crewmen, and all look very nice indeed. (Seems that these German crewmen had particularly high morale, as they stayed with their guns even after I had knocked-out their mounts!)

Image
If you worry about the crewmen looking a bit large, bear in mind that people come in many sizes (some rather larger than others :( ) and a lot of WW2 vehicles are smaller than you'd think, particularly if you've never seen them compared to a crewman who is not "sitting low inside".

Hope that helps.
