Greetings,
Just joined the GHQ forum, am primarily a 15mm Modern and WWII gamer, but have moved into 6mm in a huge way primarily for late 80's Cold War gaming, though that will expand to other areas I am not doing in 15mm.
For a few years now, starting with my 15mm Ultra-Modern Russians, I have been trying to find the "perfect" Soviet Armor Sand color, but with the dozens of combinations I have tried, am still digging for opinions. My latest attempt is mixing Polly S "Soviet Sand" with a light sand craft paint, it seems to work okay for now, but wanted to see what others have been using.
Suprisingly, even among all the top model sites (armorama, track links, IPMS Stockholm, etc.), there are not a lot of write-ups on modern Russian armor projects, especially where colors are concerned.
Thanks,
Paul
Soviet/Russian Armor Sand-Grey, what color do you use?

For modern Soviet Green, I base-coat Vallejo Military Green, do a brown wash, then DB with Vallejo Russian Green, followed by a lighter DB of a mix of about 5/6 Russian Green and 1/6 White.Pitfall wrote:TO piggyback on this thread, what color would be good in the Vallejo line for green Russian tanks?

Just to add, I am finishing a large number of GHQ and CinC vehicles in the scheme before I move onto doing the three-tone, but have used it before on some of my 15mm Soviet vehicles, if you are interested to see what it looks like, you can drop by the 15mm Modern group I run and have a look in the photos section (most of them are under the "QRF" folder):Pitfall wrote:TO piggyback on this thread, what color would be good in the Vallejo line for green Russian tanks?

The T-72's & BM-21 are painted in this scheme. When I want a more "worn" color, I usually basecoat Vallejo Russian Green, brown wash, then DB Vallejo Russian Uniform. The majority of the other Soviet vehicles in the photos section are painted in this scheme, such as the SCUD-B, SA-8, IMR, M-84, BRDM-2, etc.
I mainly use this scheme for vehicles in use in Africa and parts of the Middle East where camo is not applied, or in Europe where a vehicle has been in the field and sun a long time.
