WWII: 3/4-ton vs 1-1/2 ton Weapons Carriers

Post by Timothy OConnor »

Trying to figure out which of these vehicles was used in the following applications (US infantry battalion:

1. towing the three 57mm anti-tank guns in the battalion?

2. carrying the 81mm mortars and medium machineguns in the battalion? (I've also seen jeeps w/trailers listed in this TO&E)

I guess another way of asking this question is what was used to tow the 57mm ATGs and what was used to carry the battalions heavy weapons?

Thanks!

Tim

From what I found in my references, it is clear that the 57mm was towed by a 1.5 ton truck. Here is a website that cross checks with the reference I had on my shelf.

I could not find anything on the 81mm mortars. My guess is they used the same 1.5 ton truck.

Hope that helps.
