Sandbags made from FIMO.
Troy,

I've looked up FIMO on the web and see that it's a modelling clay. Is it like Sculpy in that you bake it a low temps to harden it? Or does it remain soft forever? Just curious.

And what type of needles are you using for your shells?

Thanks.

Troy,

If you ever decide to attend a con and run a clinic -- I sure do hope I'll find some way to be able to attend!! Maybe I'll set up a table next to yours and do a little "show and tell" on how I do scenery...

BTW... your works continue to amaze me!! Keep 'em comin'!!

And to "everyone else" -- it sure would be nice to get the chance to meet "y'all" face to face!

Regards,
Tom Stockton

Hey Tanker.

The FIMO stuff is great to work with. It hardens in the oven and is permanent. Paintable and easy to form into anything. Its much better than working with 2-part epoxy putty due to its infinate work time.

Pins are dressmakers pins. Cheap and easy to cut / sand. They are brass with chrome outsides.

Tom, sounds like a good idea - only we would be too busy watching each other!

fullmetaljacket filled us in:
ok ritter you are getting ridiculious with the detail, you an almost see the city names on the map.
I'm with FMJ on this. Troy, you are amazing. I am just dumbfounded. Here I thought I was so clever putting a flat piece of white into a commander's hands to represent a map, and you are actually printing MAPS at 1/300 for them to have spread out on tables set up on empty oil barrels.

I love it. I love every bit of it.

Also, if all my friends here will look closely at the 88 crew, not only will you see that Troy has provided rimmed cartridges (using his sewing pin method), but he has also painted them up so you can tell what type each round is! Yes, you can see the APC rounds by their black projectiles with silver caps! I wouldn't be surprised if he was putting indents in the primers of the spend casings!

I don't know what you do with all this stuff when you're done painting it, Troy. I certainly wouldn't be able to play a game with your stuff. I'd be so busy admiring and studying each piece that I'd miss my turn every time, and by the second or third round the other players would kick me off the island. But it would be worthwile, I'm sure, just to get that close to the work of the master-of-micro-armor!

FMJ,

If at all possible, I want to attend at least one day of GenCon this year. I've yet to attend... heck, I'm so dense until about two years ago, I didn't know it was in Indy!

I will most assuredly keep checking the message board here... and if I can attend, I'll be sure to drop you a note!

One question, though... seems as though I recall something about a lack of micro armor last year or two... More sci/fi, fantasy games, a few "board games" for us wargamers, not much else. Does that sound right?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Oh, one other note... Troy, I guess we'd have to stagger our start times!!

Regards,
Tom

Mark1 - you flatter me Sir! Thanks for the comments!

Yes in fact, they are used for gaming. (carefull gaming  )

Posting a few pictures of the second completed PaK. A Canadian 5 cent piece (about $0.00001 US) for those of you thinking this is 15mm

Rock wall is Talus (Woodland Scenics) and Kitty Litter (un-used natch - )

Added tin 8.8cm ammo containers made from plastic tube. These were as common as the wooden boxes.

Nah, Ritter ain't that good... he just had a model of a nickel made a foot in diameter and shot it next to some 1:35 scale stuff!!

* * * * *

Troy, you know I'm kidding about the nickel -- I know your stuff is "the real deal"! And to quote someone else I read once here -- you're scary good!!

Although I suspect you might not really work for CN... I wouldn't be surprised if you're actually a dentist or a micro-surgeon or some such in "real life"! (Once again -- !!)

All kidding aside -- I recall seeing an article in a magazine once, years and years ago -- might have been in BOYS LIFE, the Boy Scouts magazine -- of how a dentist "carved" models and what-not from little blocks of soap -- trains, planes, sailing ships (rigging and all!!), animals, etc. He had them in a display case, and I don't think any of them were more than an inch in size. They also had a picture of his tools -- a few small scalpels and picks, and (of course) a magnifying glass of some sort. I thought it was really cool... and not only that, it was a way for the gentleman to "blow off steam" while at the same time keeping his skills honed. Obviously, he had the skills of a mighty fine doctor -- and the eye of an artist to boot!

I guess you never know where you'll find some inspiration -- but I find plenty of it here on this message board!

Regards to all,
Tom Stockton

Yeah after seeing the survey pole on one of the guns I am now wondering how many pics are actually of 15mm or 1/35th and they are having a good laugh at the rest of us mortals trying to match them

So who's gonna fes up first? :P
