helos.

Post by Wayne »

Helos. I`d like to know if the helos by GHQ are hollow inside and if they make the helos with open doors? I`ve bought in the past from the other company both UH60s, Hueys,CH53s and CH46s that had the doors opened or the ramps opened or closed as you needed. This way you can have the infantry come out of the helos in action poses. But I would like to order the Choctaw even if the doors aren`t opened.

GHQ 53's

Post by skypig53 »

On the GHQ CH-53E's the crewchief and gunner's windows in the front are solid. I suppose you could get creative with a dremmel tool or something if you had a mind to. The ramp however has a two piece ramp and upper ramp door and the aft section of the model is hollowed out. You could very easily make one with the ramp lowered for the appearance of loading and unloading. The aircraft to troop scale is a little off so it might not look right if dioramas are your thing. The GHQ troops, while good for gaming, are a little too big in my opinion, and the 53 a little too small.

I can't speak for the other helos that GHQ makes, I only have 53's and AH-1's. My 46's and UH-1's probably come from the same "other" company you use since GHQ doesn't have 46's or modern two engine UH-1's.

I was really hopefull the H-34s could come with the main door open. I rode that side out of Chu Lai (MAG-36) back in the mid 60s and wanted to do a diorama based on a picture I have from the time period.

I have always wondered why GHQ decided not to do a 46 since the Frog is the main USMC transport, and has been since 1966/7. Needless to say we have many of the competitions Frogs for our CPX simulations for the USMC and USMCR.

There are two on the ground and one, plus escort, in the air during a CPX in progress in the picture above.

helos

Is there someway that GHQ could use the same die and make an opening in the H-34. Something like a plug and when the material takes shape it leaves a hollow in the side of the H-34. I`m just kinda trying to see if there are other ideas for GHQ to come up with to make open doors for the helos.

Greetings Wayne,

Recently purchased from local So Cal retailer the CH-34. Confirm that doors are closed. Good looking model though. Yes I too would have like to have doors open. I have UH-1s from other company with door gunners hanging at doorway rear area. Got about 12 each units of UH-1D and N series for Central and South American Armies currently on the works. In the middle of mods on Pirahna 6x6s as well as V-150s mounting 90mm gun turrets purchased as spare parts direct from other company.
