jb,
As soon as I have the DAK game in hand (has been shipped) I should be able to get a starting point (historic dates) to begin the campaign.
There are enough of us here to run the four combatives. I think Italian, German, British, and American (+ other allies) players are in order which I think we can handle as far as this theater is concerned.
We will be looking for Naval Players to run the convoys and intercepts, plus the Malta side show (maybe not a side show after all).
We plan to make (conflict locations and forces available) possible game information as soon as possible for anyone outside our area, as well as having our first couple of games locally. I am already updating my original Afrika forces from equipment I've had for 30+ years as well as the new equipment recently purchased and the new purchases we will have to make to upgrade some of our infantry, etc...
I would say it will be the second week of June before we can really get going...
Will

Will, Just to let you know FMJ and his crew are planning on coming up here on the 23rd of June. I will see if he is interested in doing a Desert battle that day. Maybe that can fit in with your battle plans for a result.1ComOpsCtr wrote:jb,

jb, I am pretty confident the first battles with involve the British counterattack against the Italian advance (and very long pause), and will try to more provide details ASAP. Here is the basic set-up...
Do you have early British and Italian forces?
At the end of 1940 the British received 52 light tanks, 50 Matilda's, 20AA guns and 48 105 artillery pieces in the build up for their counter attack.
The 4th Indian and the 6th Australian Infantry Divisions plus the 7th Armored Division began their attacks on 9 December. An action between 7th Arm and the Italians at Sidi Barrani cost half of the Matilda's. The Indian Division suffered heavily from the action at Sidi Barrani and encounters with the Italian armor with motorized artillery support and was replaced by the 6th Australian in the follow-up toward Tobruk. Between 10 - 20 January there was a pause by the British while they decided what to do with the Greek theater...
If you wish to conduct an action from this portion of the campaign please feel free to do so, keeping your point totals (both initial forces and losses) and letting me know the basic scenario, etc... I will make it part of the campaign.
Thanks, Will

Yes, I have some Brits,ITs,and even germans. Some are even 30 years old like yours. Pitfall on this forum and one of the guys from Indiana truly gets overjoyed with the prospect of using his ITs.1ComOpsCtr wrote:jb, I am pretty confident the first battles with involve the British counterattack against the Italian advance (and very long pause), and will try to more provide details ASAP. I think this is what Will is talking about :
http://www.multimanpublishing.com/theGa ... ocsdak.php
I've been thinking about it myself - but I'm having a hard time getting past the sticker shock!
I've also been thinking of using a board game to to run an eastern front campaign. Right now I'm leaning toward AH's Russian Front or The Russian Campaign. Haven't decided which one yet.
regards
Steve

Daryl, that's the game we are using for the basis of the campaign, but once it starts it will have its own life and direction not following the historic events other than the starting point which we have picked as the British counterattack against the Italians before the Germans arrive...

How are you planning on tracking the map for the players?
I have refereed several campaigns. I scanned the maps and counters and then using an web editor just moved the counters on the map and saved out the map as a .jpg and posted to the web so that all the players could see the map.
I make two versions of the map, one for each team so that it kept a fog of war in the campaign. Then you post them to two different pages, passworded.
The movement on the map creates the scenarios that get played on the table top.
Currently I am running an east front game using Columbia Games, "East Front" as the basis and finding it is easy to use and it translates well to the tabletop.

Daryl,
So far we will just give a location for battles as all the map movement will be conducted live here with the four players who are playing the four main combatives... Players outside these four will be given locations and basic forces involved and not have to do too much map movement. The scale of the campaign map in DAK is 5 miles. If we have to provide maps we can use jpgs scans but this is the desert where there will be many hexes with nothing on them...
Players outside this area will only be fighting land and sea battles, not conducting strategic movement.

You will be able to access campaign information on our web site as of today regarding the World War Two North African Campaign our group is running for interested gamers.
The GHQ WW2 rules system is the basis for the military logistics, combat, and victory points and will be used by the Core Command Group doing all the work for the campaign. Players are encouraged to use this system but they may use any rules system or scale they desire to conduct tactical scenarios and only need to relate forces used and lost to the GHQ point system to participate in the land/air actions of the campaign.
Naval actions will be handled separately.
The campaign will be won or lost through a combination of victories on the ground, on the water, and in the air; but the real challenge will be the political will of each Major Combatant's historical High Command who will determine the levels of logistical support each combatant receives. A running track of Political Will and Faith in Commanders will be maintained on the ComOpsCtr web site, as will the current victory point totals.
http://commandoperationscenter.com/afrika_campaign.htm
In general, a list of scenarios will be made available the week in which the 15th of each month falls. Players will have one month to complete as many of the scenarios listed as they desire reporting their point totals in the following categories:
1) Allied Forces Used points/Axis Forces Used points.
2) Allied Forces lost points/Axis Forces lost points.
3) Commanders lost (KIA/WIA)
4) Significant Valor (units/commanders who would be Mentioned in Dispatches)
Official Start Date: 15 June 2007 Historical Start Date: 9 December 1940
Good luck to any and all who wish to participate.

Thanks Will. I will be trying to get some of my Italian Cavalry some experience starting this weekend. My rules play by skill ratings applied to all functions. I figure with the poor skill ratings that the Italians will start with, they will need practical training. If they survive they might just get a boost in ratings before the 15th (aka 9 DEC 40)
