Wish List for 2008-2009

Post by cbovill »

Call me crazy, call me impatient, but I know I'm not the only one looking over the new list and anticipating when I might see any or all of my pet projects appear on it. So I decided to get a little scientific about it. I looked at the lists for 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 and noted the following from this hopelessly small sampling of two lists:
1. They have averaged producing 44 new models each year (not counting decals, combat commands, and battle boxes).
2. They seem to have produced fairly consistent rates of the different categories as follows (averaged out over the two years):
1/285 Modern got 12.5 models
1/285 WWII got 9 models
1/285 Aircraft got 3.5 models
1/285 Buildings got 0 models (unless they just didn't list them in the list)
1/2400 WWII got 7 models
1/2400 Great War got 5 models
1/2400 Modern got 0 models
1/1200 Napoleonic got 2 models
10mm Napoleonic got 5 models
10mm Civil War got 0 models

So, if you would like to lobby GHQ for your favorite new models, maybe we should keep in mind that they can probably only produce 44 new kits each year (which is actually quite impressive), and within that, they probably are producing in the ratios above due to a combination of current new projects coupled with what sells (modern ground combat being the most popular). Obviously you can feel free to switch a few around here and there as not all categories got something added each year.

With that in mind, here is my wish list for the next production season:
1/285 Modern:
I've reserved 12 spaces for this very popular category, I just don't collect this so I am not going to research what is needed here.

1/285 WWII:
Germany - PzKpfw-IIIL with p/e skurtzen
Germany - PzKpfw-IIIN with p/e skurtzen
Germany - Pioneer Infantry with all the cool engineer gear
Italy - Motorcycle troops
Italy - Fiat command car
Italy - Autoblinda 40 armored car
France - 37mm AA gun with prime mover
USA - Paratroops
USA - Paratroops heavy weapons pack

1/285 Aircraft:
Germany - Ju-87B-2 Stuka DIVE BOMBER version
USA - C-47 Dakota transport
USA - A-4 Skyhawk
USA - CH-46 Sea Knight

1/285 Buildings:
None this year.

1/2400 WWII:
Britain - CV HMS Indomitable
Britain - BB Prince of Wales
Britain - CA Berwick (good for Cornwall and Canberra too)
Britain - DD V&W Classes set of three: LR, SR, and AA escort versions
Germany - CA Deutschland/Lutzow
France - BB Bretagne
Italy - SS Perla/Adua Classes

1/2400 Great War:
Britain - AMC Otranto
Germany - CL Weisbaden
USA - CA Tennessee/Memphis
USA - CL Chester
USA - DD Wickes

1/2400 Modern:
None this year, this was a painful decision for me, but a big release of Falklands veterans next year (very belatedly).

1/1200 Napoleonic
France - 32 gun frigate l'Hermione with battle sails
France - 32 gun frigate l'Hermione with full sails

10mm Napoleonic
5 spots reserved for exanding Russia and Austria, I just don't have good knowledge of this era to pick.

10mm Civil War
None this year.

...and that's my humble list based on what little I can glean from how I think they do it. I tried to keep it balanced within the individual lines so that its not all of one type of thing and also keep some themes to it as well. For those areas I don't have any interest, I resisted the urge to take those spots and build stuff I want to see, and reserved those spots for those that do.

Now, please post what you would like to see and share with all of us.

Thanks,
Chris

Personally, I've always been fond of small ships - how about some F-Lighters and E-boats for Germany WWII, and patrol boats for everybody.

Okay I will do it like Grant - my top five wishes are:

Nevertheless a Ferret sounds very good to me as well :) .

My bad....

Of the list the thing I wanted most was Israeli weapons and I didn't put a one on there. Hmmmmm,

So the Namera would be a nice addition. It is an APC to replace / supllament the current ones. I guess the Achzarit is a stop gap measure using existing vehicles they have. These apparently would be used in the troubled occupied territories. :(

I was going to request the Magach 6 as well but thought the M-60A3 with reactive armour was close enough to resemble it.

I do like the Magach 7 though GHQ looks sharp. In fact I plan on ordering it up here ASAP or before July 11th (think that is the price increase.

Wish List 2008-2009

Ok Folks

Here are some items I would like to see for next year.

1. Pz III J with the short barrel L/42 gun. According to the Squadron Signal book on the Pz III there were 1549 of the short barrel Pz IIIJ produced during the production run as compared with 1067 of the long barreled Pz IIIJ's. Currently GHQ produces the G as their only short barreled Pz III available. There are some differences in the gun housing that preclude a simple cutting the barrel down in my opinion. This would be a nice addition for the 1941 - 1942 period and with the number produced would fill in a large gap.

2. Pz IVG. There were over 1100 produced as compared to 200 of the Pz IVF2. For numbers alone this would be another choice to cover a gap from mid 1942 to mid 1943 until the Pz IVH shows up.

3. Tiger I - Mid Production. It would be nice to have the Tiger I with the rubber rimmed roadwheels and no Feifel air cleaners. In addition there would be both turrets with the early drum and later cast cupola available as well.

4. Infantry. I echo JB on doing the infantry again. Maybe the new German WWII infantry that is coming out as an additional pack is the answer. I really would like to see more poses available for varieties sake and maybe some advancing or standing LMG's. It would be nice to have some standing firing LMG's for defending trenches and improved positions.
I would love to see more new heavy weapons packs including medium and heavy mortars with crews. By the way, crew served weapons need more than 1 person operating it such as some of the MMG's and mortars that were done earlier. We need ATR's for the Russians and a Maxim MG as well. For the Americans we need the 30 cal MG perhaps both air and water cooled versions and the bazooka of course. I know that GHQ sort of already provides these in some of their older weapons packs but I for one would like to see these redone to the new standards. I realize GHQ can't do everthing in 1 year but I would like things to continue to progress here.

5. A new T-62. This was an important cold war tank and used by Egypt and Syria during the '73 War and by Iraq as well. The old one just doesn't quite do it anymore.

6. Israli infantry from the 1967 and 1973 wars.

7. Arab infantry from the 1967 and 1973 wars

8. Now that I got my wish with the new M-48A3 it is time to consider doing the Israeli version and maybe the M-60 for Israel as well.

9. More ships for WWI and WWII. I have lots of these already but there is room for more.
One possibiliy is either the New Orleans or Minneapolis which had some details that differed from the San Francisco such as the front of the main gun. The Shinano would be great to see as well. I'm glad to see more WWI ships and would love to see more destroyers and light and heavy cruisers for the combatants as well as the French, Italian and Austrian navies and maybe even some Greek and Turkish ships.

10. I would like to see some more figures for the ACW line. There hasn't been any new stuff here for several years now. I would like to see more personality figures - especially for the western theater. I think that some Iron Brigade troops in their distinctive uniforms would also be great. I'm sure ACW Bill has a whole comprehensive list here but those would be my picks.

I will leave it at 10 subjects. I realize that some items I have multiple requests on but with the WWII and modern infantry there are many possibilties. I didn't specifically mention buildings but would like to see more WWII European and Middle Eastern/North African buildings with an intact version and ruined version with each one.

I'd like to see some support-type vehicles for the modern US line. This is based solely on my own selfish needs and not necessarily on marketability. I try to kit bash or scratch build these, but the results have been pretty embarrassing.

1. SEE
2. PLS
3. Q36
4. Q37
5. HET

I'd like to see:

Pz III and Stugs with shurtzen
Shermans with added sand bags

Command post tend, good also as first aid post
HQ staff (the high ranking officers are almost all the same, big caps and cavallry boots)
WW2 concrete MG positions

and finally why not thinking about a completly new line? The armoured trains. GHQ already makes the Karl mortars that are in my opinion only something for collectors and not for wargamers. Instead a nice armoured train would be good for a micro battle. For example existed a flat car wich carried a Pz38(t) that could be disembarked and used in the anti partisan role. It wolud be nice make encounter a T-34 battalion with an armoured train.

And why not making a set of 1:285 railway tracks? Straigh, curved, it would add great realism to the battlefileld, and it would be really easy and unexepensive for GHQ making such an accessories.

Boy, "youze guys" make such good arguments for why something should be produced is really gonna make it tough for me to argue for my two "not yet produced" favorites to be made:

M-103 Heavy Tank

Swedish "S" Tank

...'cause I don't know how big a factor "coolness" is going to be regarded by the good folks at GHQ.

Dang.

One other note... one of these days, GHQ, you're going to tempt me into buying some 1:2400 naval models... despite my over 500-ship collection in 1:1200 / 1:1250 scale. Gr-r-r-r-r-eat... just what I need... another genre competing for my hobby dollar!!

Tom Stockton
