Crossing Jordan scenario

Post by DV »

I am working on putting together the "Crossing Jordan" scenario from the GHQ modern rule book. I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas about what I could do to represent the T-55 AVLB 's. Also, any info regarding the anti-tank ditches on the Golan Heights. Should they be completely impassable without bridgelayers or tractors paving the way?

Great minds think the same way!

I am (very slowly) working on the same project. Specifically the 7th Brigade's stand in the Kueneitra Gap between Booster and the other Tel (name alludes me and I don't feel like getting up to locate it :?).

As to your questions; for the AVLBs I can only think of two choices, either use one of the "other guys" who make the model (not very well in my opinion, but that's what I did), or buy seperste T55 hulls and the bridge portion of the M60 AVLB from GHQ and use those.

As to the anti-tank ditch, anything I read sounded as though they were impassable and had to be filled up, or bridged.During the battle the Syrians were stuck in a traffic jam due to the ditch but also having their engineer assets in back of the column. One commander had his infantry dismount and start worki filling it using shovels.

As to modeling the ditch I bought a bunch of hexes fron GHQ and thought I'd cut the ditch out akin to the way they are used in making rivers.

I've been working on the same scenario. I use the "Ros Heroics" MTU-55 AVLB for the bridgelayer. They are the actual vehicle the Syrians used. Of course, they are not up to GHQ standards, but once painted and mounted they look fine.

I intend to use the bridge from the GHQ T-28 AVLB pack once (and if) the bridge is deployed.

The photos I have seen of the ditch indicates that a vehicle could not cross unless it was bridged or filled in. Infantry would have an easier time crossing the obstacle, but it wouldn't be easy. Thus, the rule in the GHQ MODERN RULES for crossing an anti-tank ditch may need to be modified for the scenario.

Speaking of the scenario, has anyone else noticed that the Syrian OB fails to mention how many FO's they receive for their artillery? The best I could do was to refer to the "scenario design section" in the rules.

If you study the picture it appears the "ditch" was compromised by bulldozing. I think the picture of the T-62 driving off the VLB gives a trepidated appearance of the "ditch".

I believe the filled in part of the AT ditch was done by Israel on their advance to into Syria.
