My Next Project, whats yours?

Post by Rusty »

Hey Everyone

Well after a lot of looking around, reading ect i have my idea for my first Micro Armour Project (Well once i have the Germans done)

Looking at building Villers Bocage, with the 7th Armoured Division, and of course with Wittman and his Tigers.

I will be using GHQ models, and will be conisdering the GHQ Terrain maker system.

I will have to work out the ground scale, and the size of the map. Once i have studied the maps from Villers Bocage i will start the planning stages which will be the size of the table.

Then of course i have to find on OOB for the 7th Armoured Division for Villers Bocage.

Well thats my project whats yours?

Rusty,

I have also thought of doing a game or mini campaign of the same area. I recently came across an area to order maps of the battlefields of france and normandy.

http://www.omnimap.com/catalog/int/historical.htm#p3

I have a couple on order, but havent received them yet. I can let you know later how they look if you want.

Meglomania :D :D

I have finished my 1st British Airborne. Doing last few models for Guards Armoured and about half way through 3rd British Infantry Division. US 82nd / 101st is also almost finished.

Lots of Germans there also - but I have not paintied them as units given the way they fought.

At the same time, I am acquiring moderns as they go on sale to allow me to restock my modern armies that I built as a kid growing up with H&R and Navwar. That is a long term project.

Hello Rusty
Villers-Bocage in terrain maker is my current project as well!
These two books will give you every thing you need. Detailed maps, order of battle etc.

http://www.amazon.com/Villers-Bocage-Th ... 238&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/Villers-Bocage-BZ ... 238&sr=8-2

Also Google Earth is amazing all of the area is there in high res.
Here is a picture of hill 213 with a terrain maker hex overlay in scale.

The whole of Villers-Bocage would be huge I opted to build Hill 213, Still to complete though!

Here are some of my 7th armoured division.

I'm currently working on a reinforced Stryker company, adding A-T, Cav, and engineer platoons as I go. Will also have the infantry to go with the vehicles sometime later.

I have just decided that my next project will be casualty markers! Before you start hear me out, I'm not resurrecting THAT thread. I'm going to make 1/2400 scale ship and airplane casualty markers. Sinking warships, crashed airplanes, oily frothy water that sort of thing.

Who doesn't want Ardent's bow sticking up out of San Carlos water? Who wouldn't want to see the japanese planes pile up around the US fast Battleships providing air defenses for the carrier Task Forces?

My next project? Getting that !@#$!%! cinder block wall in the basement fixed and repainted so I can set my hobby workbench back up and do something! When you live in a 50-year-old house, and the foundation settles, and then a little bit of water seeps in and starts molding behind the umpteen layers of paint that the previous owner(s) applied to try to hide the problem... well, it's not a pirates arrrrgh! that comes to mind! (Especially when someone is not a particularly "handy man"... but we won't mention any names! )

My next project is to work out a comprehensive list of what I have and what I need, so that I can then do some more shopping, but I've already got a 1941 era light and medium german tank companies, a mid to late war heer FlaK battery (complete with wurtzburg radar team), and lastly a 41+ Nebelwerfer battery.

I'm trying to kitbash / scratchbuild a few vehicles to finish up my modern US artillery unit (Q-36, Q-37, PLS) but I seem to be all thumbs.

Finishing up the loose ends of my Stryker battalion which includes an AT company, an engineer company, a recon company, and a bunch of supply transports (I also painted some Apaches and Blackhawks to use with this force). OPFOR already completed includes a large Muj infantry force (with civilian vehicle transport from Microform and GHQ technicals) and some regular infantry.

Next up are two regular OPFOR infantry and tank forces and some more "militia" style troops. One regular force will include a Russian T-90 battalion and a mech infantry battalion in BMP-2s along with Hokum attack helicopters. The other regulars will include battalion of Chinese Type-98 MBTs, a mech infantry battalion in WZ551 wheeled APCs, and some self-propelled AAA (I'm using the Russian Tunguska since GHQ doesn't make Chinese SP AAA yet and the Tunguska looks similar to a current Chinese vehicle). The militia infantry use the Bush Warrior figures from GHQ and will represent a reinforced leg infantry battalion (need to buy some soft trucks to motorize these guys).

All of these OPFOR troops are based on real world forces but represent forces from a fictional area of operations that I've been developing. I've found that this approach creates a lot of freedom for scenario development and force composition while being perfectly plausible. And all of these forces use a rough 3:1 ratio so each infantry stand represents about 2-4 squads or support weapons and each vehicle model represents about 2-4 vehicles.

Rapidly painting the entire Luftwaffe in preparation for my airborne assault on Crete: the Maleme airfield scheduled for this weekend.

Here's some of the buildlings I've made for a town on Crete.

Building a hypothetical, near future Canadian Armoured Regiment of Leopard 2, and my choice for the light armoured recce vehicle program...fennek..

After this I wish to build a full battle group based around a mix of armour and motorized infantry, with engineer units utilizing the cougar/buffalo etc.
