One of the things I keep in mind when I buy minis is that it really is a cheap hobby over time. I have some figures now that are a good 20 years old. Spread the cost of the figures over the time you have them and consider the time you have fun painting them and we have a pretty cheap hobby all things considered.
Why you can't even see a movie these days for the price of one pack of figures and you will get literally hours of enjoyment painting and playing with them for years.
With that said...now let's see what I can add to my collection.

Our family unit (standard TO&E of 1x Dad, 1x Mom, 2x Children

I just completed my GHQ order which came to $126 ($26 over budget, but that's pretty good for anything related to military topics). But that investment will last a life time+ since my kids will inherent them. On the other hand I prefer simple, fast playing rules so I don't get to use them as much as I would like.

One point brought up here is one that I continually point out to my dear wife... almost all of my "hobby stuff" will retain a good deal of value for years to come. (Paints, glue, etc. notwithstanding...) Of course, that value could only be realized if, at that point in time, someone were willing to pay for it. (Ask my son about his "Pokemon" card collection he amassed when he was eight-to-ten years old...
)
Probably like many of us, I've accumulated quite a bit from "that auction site", and gotten some pretty good deals. If and/or when the time comes to part with some of my collection, I doubt I will get as much as I paid for it -- either at auction or retail prices -- but there will be some return -- and hopefully, a fairly reasonable amount. And undoubtedly more than a "Pokemon" card collection!! Or a video game, or a ticket stub and empty popcorn box from a far-too-easily forgotten movie... not to mention the innumerable pairs of shoes that my dear spouse has gone through over the years. (And Honey, if you're checking up on me and reading this, I'm just kidding! Really! It's okay that you've spent so much on shoes! I don't mind at all... )
One other note... Tim, absolutely loved

Got the same myself... but have to add 2x dogs to the "active duty roster", as they seem to prominently figure into most family operations...family unit (standard TO&E of 1x Dad, 1x Mom, 2x Children

Well the value only increases to.
If you were lucky enough to purchase the mini's when they were $6.95 a pack you could easily sell them on ebay and get that amount. I have noticed when people bid on GHQ stuff it seems they take a percentage of the current price and go with that.
So lets say 7 packs of GHQ T-72's
a person seems to multiple it by the current price so these would be $62.65 and then times them by a discount fo what they would pay for them....say 65% of retail is wha they are willing to pay so it would be $40.7225.
Now if the person who were selling these packages bought them at $6.95 this comes to $48.65. Which is real close to what they just got for them.
Now if they have a nice paint job and were taken care of they would probably get even more for them on resell. Kind of like a house growing equity.
Even if said house isn't getting a lot of equity your probably going to at least break even for the amount of money you have paid into it. Which means at the very least you have lived RENT free for said time living in the house. At least that is how I look at it.

I just dropped GHQ a bill-and-a-half last night.
I have more than 30 un-openned boxes of Micro Armor waiting in my "yet-to-be-painted" box. But I too could not resist buying at a discount before the prices go up.
LAST DAY OF THE SALE! GET 'EM WHILE THEY'RE HOT!
I'd like to think that I have "filled up" my tank ... that with this order I won't need to buy more for some time into the future. But in truth, I know I'll be back for more as soon as the WW2 Romanians come out.
Oh well. It's still cheaper than golf.

My order is just a tad above $500, about half of which are individual infantry packs - I am replacing all my infantry stands (WW2 and modern) with GHQ. The rest are mostly AIW and assorted other modern stuff, including a company of Leo 2A6 for the Canadians and a Stryker company in 1:1 scale (my preferred unit scale). And also UK82 / UK86 - LRDG & SAS are just too cool not to get.
The only thing I am dreading now is how much Canadian customs gonna tax me. At least the exchange rate is in my favor these days.

Gentlemen, I say this with the utmost respect... I will no longer question my sanity and bad habit of buying things on a whim that I can probably do without (at least until other stuff is painted).
I only managed to order some of Beatty's battlecruisers (plus Hipper's BCs for a friend), a small pile of M-60s & M-113s and the second half of my '41 Italians. Quite when I'll get around I painting them I don't really know. But they can go with the rest of the boxes of unpainted stuff. It appears I'm not the only one with that problem.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with a mountain of lead still to paint
I must have some stuff up in my attic that I've had for close on 20 years!
One day I will paint that Israeli Merkava unit to go with that Egyptian T-55 unit and I will do all that France 1940 stuff.
Now if GHQ only did Warhammer stuff as well I could hide my toys order in with that for the kids?

Well got the order today!
Even got a GHQ cap as a thank you! Just wanted to say "No! Thank YOU GHQ!"
Now to cleaning the flash!
Then magnatizing each and every turret! (Actually have this down to an art form!)
Gonna have to pick up a few more cans of primer.
Finally to the painting!
But not done yet then the decaling! What did I get myself into.

Whaddya think -- would that one be easier to "sneak under the radar" of the family CFO (i.e., the spouse)??

Hey, you might be on to something there... maybe if GHQ "changed" their name as they billed my credit card and on their shipping labels to something like "Historical Re-Enactment Supplies", or maybe even something "generic" like "Central Supply Warehouse" or even "Acme, Inc."??Now if GHQ only did Warhammer stuff as well I could hide my toys order in with that for the kids?
