Your Favorite Tank Model? (based on looks alone)

Post by Timothy OConnor »

I recently bought some GHQ M60 A3s from my FLGS and I must say, I really like how these look. Of course, these are the same tanks I played with as a kid (green vs tan plastic army men). But the model just looks neat. Compared to the M1 Abrams I recently painted these are tall and blocky.

So, what are your favorite microarmor tank models purely from a looks perspective? I'm not talking accuracy or mold quality. Just how the tank model "looks".

For me it's a tie between the M60 A3 and the Merkava. The M60 looks rugged, blocky and distinctive in an exaggerated way. Big turret and very visible road wheels. The Merkava looks sleek and almost sci-fi with its sunken, swept-back turrent.

I must admit that I really don't like the Abrams and its ilk. They seem non-descript and rather boring. Flat boxes really.

Anyway, fire for effect, sound off, and all that. What's your favortite microarmor tank model, whether WWII or modern, based on how it looks?

Since you said only looks counts...M-60A2 "Starship".

Yes GHQ used to make models for that - I have 4 in my collection, probably my very first micro-armor models.

T-35, no contest. A true land-dreadnaught -- I'd love it if GHQ produced some of the other inter-war monsters like the Independent :)

I love tanks of the early war. The definitive early war tank - Pzkfw 38t.

I liked the Churchill and missed buying them on sale back several months ago. I wanted to do a Dieppe raid in which Calgary regiment used the Churchill 2s and 3s for the invasion of Dieppe. I think I liked the big look of these tanks. I also liked the Pz III and IVs

Leopard 2. I'm still finding excuses, I mean armies to build in order to buy more. The Poles have them now. Awesome! I knew 250 wouldn't be enough.

The mold needs an update to their 'new' standards but the Matilda II. Second Camas request on the Matilda I!

Tiger I. I've got a company each of the early and late models, done up in half a dozen different camo schemes. Won't ever need to purchase more because a little goes a long way on the gaming table.
On the other hand, I've got 500+ Shermans. Maybe my subconcious is trying to tell me something.

Currently made by GHQ: a toss-up between the KV-II and the JS-152.

One made by "the other guys" that I wish GHQ would make: the Swedish "S" tank

One I really, REALLY wish GHQ would make: the M-103!!
