Photos of Hiei

Post by Donald M. Scheef »

The first place I went was to the Naval Historical Center (htttp://www.history.navy.mil/index.html). Follow the menu to "Online Resources, Online Photographic Collection, Ships of Foreign Navies and Government Agencies, Japanese Navy Ships. There you will find a several-paragraph description & history and several photographs of many Japanese WWII ships, including all four of the Kongo class. In particular, note the significant differences between their original appearance as WWI battlecruisers (with relatively little superstructure) and their final appearance (with massive tower bridge structures).

Thanks for the link. I thought they looked much alike after their reconstruction. I also thought the Kongos were the best looking Japanese battleships, and maybe they are, but some of the Kongos are ugly. Not in the same class of ugly with Fuso or Yamashiro of course, but ugly.
