Overall there are some things that I like/need. I don't like/need everything on the list, and if I could make the list it would be different. Is that a surprise to anyone? Being primarily a WWII enthusiast (...for the time being...lol) all of the 1947 stuff sounds really interesting. I don't see this as science fiction, as was previously mentioned. Over the years I have seen a lot of books/websites that show plans and have a lot of data and descriptions of these. I do think that it would be a HUGE mistake to release these wihtout any of the Allies stuff...hint...hint. Everyone has their own interests and points of view. Let's try to remember that there are other people who like things that are different from what we like. Every year I look at the list and think that if there are a few things that I want, then I'm happy. I can't expect any company to be in lock step with all of my wishes and desires (over the years my interests have actually changed at times...surprise). In general I wish that the list didn't have as much modern and naval, but I can appreciate that there are a lot of guys who wish that there wasn't as much WWII. I'm not trying to set anyone off here, I just want to try to keep this topic in perspective.

Post by groundlber »

All right- a Fiesler Storch for Rommel or 'Smiling Alfred' to fly around, a Mosquito just because they're so cool looking, and the protected cruiser 'Aurora' to add to my mutineer's squadron. I have a model of the Potemkin from one of the other guy's, anyone have a suggestion for HMS Bounty in 1/1200 or thereabouts?
I haven't started thinking about the land vehicles, or how I'm going to pay for all this. I'm glad you're spreading the releases out over a year. To quote a friend "The less we spend on food, the more we can spend on games".

I didn't realize the M105 DEUCE on the list. Wow, I have to say that is a great and quite special new item - can't wait to get some for my Brits. :D

Well, I've kitbashed some M1117 ASV so I may or may not get any of those. I'll buy a ton of the G-Wagons, I guess the M105 would be a nice addition in small numbers and what a couple of NH-90s maybe. That's it. The 1947 stuff fills a much needed hole in your catalog. I guess modern 1/2400 is dead, unless I missed something. Its been what six or seven years since the last addition to that line. I guess I'll have to continue to spend my money elsewhere. GHQ - Viking Forge/SeaBattle will be eating your lunch.

Thanks for the MTVR and the Wolf - know I can pretty much put together a USMC MEU(SOC) or RCT for use in Iraq or Afghanistan scenarios.

GHQ New Releases

Post by pmskaar »

Having looked at the list for the rest of this year and into next year I am generally okay with it but like most everyone else here have some disappointments with it as well. First the good news for me.

1. Polikarpov I - 153. Would have preferred a Pe-2 but this will add another aircraft for the Russians in the early war. There are still quite a number to do for the entire war but this helps.
2. Log homes and truss bridges. I appreciate any new buildings and structures GHQ makes. These will find their way onto my gaming table.
3. Pak 43. Why not.
4. Feisler Storch. Now the Germans have an observation/ liason aircraft and part of my Rommel Headquarters set will now see the light of day.
5. Dorchester armored command vehicle. Good for Brits and Germans in North Africa and another piece for the Rommel HQ set.
6. Italian 75. This is a much needed piece for the Italians and fills in a nice hole.
7. U.S. Paratroopers. Yeah!
8. U.S. light AT weapons. Another hole that needed filling. The 37mm AT guns for early war U.S. such as Tunisia and Bazookas because they are needed and no longer have to rely on the old Bazooka teams for this.
9. Ships. I also buy and paint these from time to time. I have no great disappointments with the list currently since I have quite a number to paint already. I would like to see the 1942 version of the Yorktown/Enterprise soon.

My disappointments
1. Currently there are some gaps in German tanks in my opinion. I still would like to see the short barreled Mk IIIJ. With over 1500 of these produced this is a significant hole in my opinion. The long barreled Mk IIIJ had 1200 by contrast.
Pz IVG. With a production run of over 1600 this is also a significant hole in German armor. As an aside here, I know that GHQ produced the Pz IV F1 and F2 some time ago. There were only 200 copies of the F-2 made.
Tiger I - Intermediate production model. Currently GHQ makes the early with Pfeiffel aircleaners and the late with all steel roadwheels. It would be neat to have one with no Pfeiffel aircleaners and the rubber rimmed roadwheels. Also maybe both the drum cupola and cast cupola could be included as well.
2. I would like to see more Shermans. I'm still looking for a regular M4A3 with split hatch and earlier type glacis. These were very common in Normandy as opposed to the current GHQ Sherman with the cupola which I have yet to see a picture during the French campaign. Other types are of course welcome as well.
3. I echo Russian rifle infantry and AT rifles. Very common and I don't get why GHQ doesn't just do them.
4. Medium and Heavy mortars for all nationalities.
5. Still no new model of the T-62 or the BMP1 for that matter. If I had to choose 1 then I would vote for the T-62 but the BMP1 is starting to show its age just a bit. Am I really that jaded?
6. With the advent of the German 1947 line, I also hope to see some of the Allied vehicles as well such as the Centurion and maybe a new model of the JSIII.
7. An Israeli M-48 for the '73 War and maybe an M-60 as well for the same time. I don't know how many mods were done but they were different than the U.S. versions. My main interest in moderns is the Arab-Israeli Wars and the possibe NATO vs. the Warsaw Pact which I lived through during my time in the Army. I'm not really into the latest modern stuff since I have many other period interests that keep me occupied such as WWII.
8. German aircraft. No Ju87 Stuka B model? This is the classic Stuka used during the Blitzkreig and should be there. Also, how about an Me 109e, a Focke Wulf 190A, and maybe an Me 110 and a Heinkel HE 111 to round things out.
9. How about sideskirts for the Stug IIIG and the various Pz III's that carried them such as the Pz III L,M. and N.
I could go on here but I think I have said enough already.

One more thing. What is the obsession with the Matilda I? There I said it. I just would like Ritter and Cama to explain their passion for this vehicle. As I said earlier, I would probably buy some if it came out but I think I have explained my position on why there are lots of other things for GHQ to do first. I am not trying to start a fight with anyone here but am interested to know from anyone who wants to answer:

1. Why the Matilda I?
2. Once your wish is granted, what is the next thing that you really want to see?

I'll jump in after looking at all the other post. I to am thrilled at the idea of finally having US Airborne for the US. ANd puzzled at the idea of the 1947 line? Not that it is a bad idea but like many has said there are infantry lines and vehicles that were actually in service thatI would think would result in more sales. But hey; I hope it sells well for GHQ.

If I knew that the 47 idea was under serious considderation I would have requested the OPFOR mock ups used at FT Irwin! I would love to see these vehicles I just don't think they would sell. I try to limit myself to those things I think would be popular enough to be a profitable line.

Any now I gotta think fo what I want for WW2 (D*** it) :P
I pray for Peace on Earth Good will toward men. Till then one round HE fire for Effect!

Why do gamers want to see the MATLIDA 1: BECAUSE IT ACTAULLY SAW COMBAT  . I doubt the 1947 line of German equipment saw action, but I have said my piece on that idea.

Some other equipment that saw combat but are not listed: Soviet SU-12, Japanese TYPE 89 Main Battle Tank, Polish trucks, and the list goes on.

There are a number of good ideas out there.

Isn't that the whole problem with the Matilda I? It only ever saw action with the BEF in France. From GHQ's point of view, I think it would be more useful for them to produce something that can be used for a multitude of campaigns. In other words, something that fills up a large demand instead of a small niche.

I guess 1947 means we'll be getting a M-46 Patton tank which is cool.

And everyone will get to play with their Easy Eights :D

A lot of people have had a chance to look over the list, and post their opinions here or send us an e-mail. Everytime that we put something like this up we know that everyone is not going to be in agreement with all of our choices. As some previous posters have mentioned, if there are a few things that YOU are excited about, then we consider it to be a successful list. There are a lot of eras, nationalities, and theatres that we need to cover wtih about 50 new items every year. It comes as no surprise that someone who is interested in Modern Micro Armour is not going to be happy about some WWI Micronauts.

Anyone can post whatever opinions they have about the list. However, we would like to stay away from the endless lists of disappointments. We don't ask this because we can't handle the criticism, we ask it because we are 100% certain that everyone could very easily come up with 50+ items that they would rather see on our new release list. All of us at GHQ could easily come up with hundreds of things that would be really nice to have on the list. That is why is so hard, and takes so long, to put this list together every year.

As for the Wermacht '47 line, the feed back has been extremely positive. GHQ has always been a leader in the industry. We were the first to pioneer micro scale gaming with the introduction of our 1/285th scale Micro Armour in 1967. Over the last 40+ years we have pushed the envelope many times rather than wait for someone else to do it. We wouldn't be the company that we are without stepping out and pioneering new frontieers. Yes, the WWII line is not complete. When we released our first Modern Micro Armour in the mid-1970's our WWII line was a small fraction of what it is now. We have never regretted starting a Modern line before completing everything in WWII. BTW, the Wermacht '47 line is starting with Germans and will include Allies.

We want to thank all of you who have taken the time to look through our list of new releases, and have posted your opinions/observations/thoughts. Please always keep in mind that we are trying to produce items that will sell, we don't have any ulterior motives with the lists that we come up with.

Thank you for your support,
GHQ

If that was the case for new model selection - there would be many models that GHQ does that saw no action at all! Especially the modern.

The Matilda I was one of the most popular choices when the poll was done on this site. That = solid sales for GHQ. I agree with Cama- The Matilda I was a an essential vehicle in the Battle of France and that theater alone is one of my favorites.

I know that eventually GHQ will do this model and many others that saw limited action - and do them well. Thats is why there are simply the BEST miniatures out there for wargamining - in any scale! Period.
