Yes, to bring this thread back to it's original intent - a thread on BUILDING Stalingrad - not buying it!

I made up a trial run of a mold from a 10mm scale wall. I first made a mold out of fimo and then baked that to hardness. I used a talc as a release and I then pressed the fimo into the mold. It came out easily and I was able to make decent wall sections. Although too big, this is a good way to make ruins. Now to find 6mm brick...

GHQ does have competition. I have purchased military miniatures from at least five other companies. Because of the higher quality of their castings, GHQ is my favorite. However, CinC makes reasonably good castings at a (sometimes) lower price and produces some ships and vehicles that are not in the GHQ line. Seabattle produces a much larger number of commercial and auxiliary ships than GHQ, albeit of lower quality and high price compared to GHQ. Viking Forge models are similar to Seabattle (sometimes a bit lower in quaility) but generally lower cost and, again, cover some ships that no one else makes. I have seen the Sea Wulf offerings, but I don't do modern warfare anymore. Even the Panzerschiffe resin castings, which are really crude compared to most metal castings, represent some ships that no one else covers. (I will probably get their HMS Vanguard and then replace all the details by sacrificing a GHQ KGV.) When I was doing a lot of modern armour, I was also getting figures from Scotia and Skytrex (again, significantly lower quality than GHQ, but covering some tanks and guns not made by GHQ - they have Matilda Mk.I).

As much as I prefer GHQ, my purchasing power is limited. (Much more limited than my wish lists.) I would probably have purchased about $1000 more from GHQ last year if I hadn't purchased about that much from competitors.

In my opinion, it's perfectly acceptable to mention these other companies in a GHQ-sponsored forum, but it just wouldn't be right to include a link to their sales site.

Just finished painting my Stalingrad Grain Elevator from Timecast - Fantastic! Thanks for the heads-up from whoever suggested that. Their other Stalingrad buildings are great too - probably the best I've seen for resin.
It is starting to look like Stalingrad, not just anytown. Landmarks really help.

Been making bomb craters out of celluclay and superdough to put around the bombed out buildings. Definitely helps too.

Troy, just found your thread, have you seen the diorama in the Stalingrad museum or any images from the Panorama in Volgograd? From memory the diorama appears to be scaled for 6mm and in length is around maybe 30 metres and depth maybe 2-3 metres. I think that covers the significant areas of the battle. :))

(You're planning on moving soon?)

PM me if you want to see any poor quality shots I did when there a few years ago.
