I just received my latest order from GHQ and I added in a couple of packs of TMA1 Dark Green Trees (for the Do It Yourselfer). They look great, and I think I'll be able to fumble my way into making some sweet little trees to cover the green felts that I've been using for forests on the tabletop.
One problem though: In the instructions for making Pines (Ponderosa Pines, etc) the Step One item states:"Folllow the steps detailed on the instructions included in your Terrain Maker kit, titled 'Preparing a Tree'. Take your finished tree and point the top with a pair of scissors."
I didn't order the entire Kit so this means little to me. I think I can guess what needs doing to make a Pine tree though. IE: snip mid bump, strip or melt down some of the larger side to make the trunk, and use white glue and tweezers to shape the bristles. (?)
Can anyone confirm what is involved in the "Preparing a Tree" portion of the Terrain Maker Kit? Is it much more difficult hat what I stated above? Does anyone have an on-line tutorial showing what they did with their kit trees?
It is really just as simple as you described in your post. The process is very quick, and the results are great! When you are doing a bunch of trees and get into a groove, you should be able to do a tree every 30-45 seconds. We occasionally put on a demo at shows, and we make 4 different kinds of trees (pine, palm, cypress, and deciduous) in two minutes total. Many people who haven't used our Terrain Maker products can't believe that the trees, and hexes, can be that easy and quick to do while providing the results that you see throughout our website...but it's true.
