Hurricane Gustav

Just a quick note to all forum members in Hurricane Gustav's path. Please stay safe and take care of your families. We here in Baton Rouge have a couple of hours before it hits. The eye is along the coast right now. So, everyone in Louisiana, southwest Mississippi, and northeast Texas be safe, and God Bless. Will catch up with you all after this mess clears out.

Thanks Guys:

Just a quick update. The family and I have evacuated to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a few days. Rode out the storm on Monday. (I'll NEVER do that again!) It was much worse on us than Katrina or Rita back in '05. No structural damage to home or injuries to family. Lack of electricity and a neighberhood resembling a battlefield forced us out to recover and regroup. Baton Rouge is basicly a closed city under curfew. Hope to be back home by Monday. I will keep you posted as things progress. To the members in the Midwest, what is left of Gustav is headed your way. You won't have the wind but you will get the water. Thanks again to all for your thoughts and prayers, we need them. You are a great bunch of folks.

Hi Guys:

The family and I are still evacuated to Mississippi. We are doing OK all things considered. I'm not sure how I'd write an AAR on riding out a hurricane. I can tell you that no one expected us to get hit like we did. 75mph sustained winds with gusts to 95mph at the airport, trees, power lines and debris snapping and flying all around you, makes you feel really small in the great scheme of things. Not to mention scared as hell. I've talked to some folks back home, and have seen the local internet pictures of Baton Rouge. It is not a pretty site. Just wish the national news types would leave New Orleans and see the real story from Houma to Baton Rouge. Still no electricity in my area, trees and lines are still down, short on food and fuel. but, from what I'm told, help is starting to come in.
Hopefully, things will be a little better when we get back. I'll let you all know. Thanks for listening, guys, it's been a long, hard week. Thanks again for being a great bunch of folks.

Hi Guys!

The family & I returned to Baton Rouge yesterday afternoon. We have a little roof damage with some dinged up shingles and trim, but no major damage. My neighberhood looks worse now than it did right after the storm. But we've all pitched in to help each other clean up. Looks like we'll be OK after everything is done, but right now many areas of town look like a battlefield. There is a lot of reconstruction work to be done.

Any of you on the forum who have weathered a hurricane, "Nor'easter", or blizzard know the kind of stress these things bring out. For those of you who have not, I hope you never have to find out. Unfortunately, it looks like Hurricane Ike is headed for Texas. I hope that everyone over there comes through as well as I did. Stay safe over there.

Thanks one last time for all of your concern for my family and I. It is greatly appreciated.
