G34 - SdKfz 250/9

Post by Grimbold »

Has anyone recenty bought the blister pack G34, which is supposed to be 6 x SdKfz 250/9 armoured cars?

This may seem a bit long-winded but I was at a games show in July and intended to get a G34 as I needed 5 x 250/9s. However, the pack contained 4 x SdKfz 250/9 and 2 radio half-tracks. It seemed to me that it was merely a mis-labelled G91 instead, as it had exactly the same contents as a G91. The trader said that he would contact GHQ and query it. In the meantime, he would put a G34 on order for me.

I went to another games show today, intending to pick up my order. However, he had not filled my order because GHQ had apparently told him that the content of the G34 was correct and he was not too sure what I wanted. We compared G34 and G91and they are identical - which does not seem right. I even checked with another trader at the same show and his blister packs were also identical.

As I needed five SdKfz 250/9, the trader generously gave me two G91s and only charged me for one, so he is now out of pocket.

So, does anyone know exactly what is supposed to be in a G34? Am I misreading the GHQ catalogue or is there a subtle difference between G34 and G91 that we missed? Personally, I think a whole batch of G34 has been mis-labelled.

Hi,

I will try to help.
In G34 you get 4 250/9 and 2 250/3
in G91 you get 4 250/9 and 2 250/5

the ones in G34 are in 'alt' version (2 piece back panel (where number and marking goes), in G91 you get 'neu' version (1 piece back panel).

Best regards,
Bartek

Hi Bartek

Thanks for the reply and the information. I agree with you about G91, as the catalogue says'4/2' in the total vehicles per pack column, showing two different types of vehicle are included. However, G34 only shows '6' in the total vehicles per pack column, implying that there are 6 identical vehicles and mentions nothing about the SdKfz 250/3.

Even the GHQ website says the same thing.

Maybe they should make the content description clearer in the catalogue!

Some of the descriptions in the catalogue (both print and online) are less than complete. This doesn't mean that you didn't encounter a packaging/labeling error, but GHQ is very good about this kind of thing and mistakes are very very rare (I've only seen 1 in 30+ years).

For G34 you get :

5 x SdKfz 250/9 2 cm (alt)
1 x SdKfz 250/3 Radio (alt)
1 x sprue w/ MG+shield
1 x sprue w/ 3 x standing officer in field cap (Rommel anyone?)

For G91 you get :

4 x SdKfz 250/9 2 cm (neu)
2 x SdKfz 250/5 Art. Obs. (neu)
1 x sprue w/ MG+shield and 2 x FO w/scissors telescope (waist up only)

Steve/Gort - Thanks for the information, which is a bit different from the info given by Bartek and the contents of the 'G34' pack given to me. The 'G34' I was given by the trader definitely has 4 SdKfz 250/9 ,2 half-track radio vehicles, and three standing officers with cap.

It sounds like it is probably a G91 and mis-labelled. Hopefully, GHQ will give us a definitive answer as to the proper contents of G34 and G91.

Must have to disagree with you about packaging errors etc. I have only ever bought three Combat Commands and all three had bits missing! However, I agree with you about GHQ putting things right - they sent me the missing parts very quickly.

Maybe I am just unlucky!

Curiouser and curiouser. Maybe I'm the one with the mispacked G34 (5/1 instead of 4/2). Only bought one pack - just assumed it was correct. Hopefully more people will post and give us a clearer picture on this.

@Grimbold

When I purchased #G34 from GHQ I got two 'radio halftracks'. As I was as suprised as you, because I knew the description of blister pack contents published on GHQ's web page I send an email to GHQ and asked for information. I got a reply that #G34 included 4 250/9 and 2 250/3(including standing officers sprue etc).

Hi Bartek

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the description in GHQ's catalogue and website is misleading and that Steve did indeed get a mispacked G34!

@ GHQ

Can someone from GHQ please clarify whether the catalogue is correct and that there should be 6 x SdKfz 250/9s in G34.

Thanks

I have just had a response from GHQ. Their reply is as follows:

Thanks for contacting GHQ.

The listings in both the catalog, and the website, reflect the current packaging of both G34 and G91.

The G34 pack now contains 6 x SdKfz250/9 (ALT pattern) 20mm recon halftracks.

The G91 pack has 4 x 250/9 20mm turreted recon halftracks and 2 x 250/5 radio carriers (both NEU pattern).

In the past, the G34 pack was inadvertantly packed with 4 x 250/9 and 2 x 250/5 (ALT pattern). At this time the 250/5 ALT is out of production, but GHQ is planning a re-release of this model in the not-too-distant future,

I guess this seems to clarify matters and explains why the packs seemed to be the same.

Does anyone have a spare one of those 250/3 alt radio half tracks? I would love to buy/trade one if anyone does!
