ghq Modern micronauts

Post by aricart2003 »

I have played several games of modern naval warfare with the game Shipwreck by vandering publishings using 1/6000 miniatures, but would prefer to use ghq miniatures if there were more available. I hope they pick up on this.

One huge frustration in the modern naval lines GHQ or anyone else is the lack of aircraft in the 2400 range. To look at a game where 1./2 of the planes are cardboard counters and the other 1/2 are models just sucks.

The USA and USSR are pretty well represented b ut the Britisha nd French need to be in some one's line.

Maybe that would spark the interest in the period enough to make it profitable. Since WW2 planes and ships have the same relationship to each other that Infantry and Armor have on land. They go together.

modern micronauts

Post by aricart2003 »

I do not use airplanes in the same scaler as the warships
specially since I am using 1/6000 minitures for ships.
but use 1/285 or 1/300 figuresfor airplanes.

Although I do not collect modern Micronauts myself and understand GHQ's stated position, I support efforts to influence the choices of new models through this forum.
If anyone would like to suggest specific modern ships for which GHQ models are desired, I would be glad to include these as votes in the Consolidated Micronaut Wish List.

modern micronauts

Thanks don
I would concentrate initially with cold war ships and then move to current ones.

Russian ships
Kashin, Krestas, Kara for starters
Moskva, Kynda

United states
for starters Charles Adams, virginia.
forrest sherman variants
then Arleigh Burke class with hangar,

British
Leander armed with exocet,
county class and Bristol
then type 22 batch 2, and batch 23
eventually the new brithish 45 destroyer.

and eventually other countries like japan, italy, france

I'm longing for a collection of a possible Taiwan Strait crisis. It's easier to find ships from the Taiwan side with most of their inventories appearing under US list. Yet there are quite a gap on PLAN.

Just to add my "dream" items to the list:

PLAN:
Type 051C Luzhou class
Type 051B Luhai class
Type 052 Luhu class
Type 051 Luda class
Type 054A Jiangkai-II class

ROC (Taiwan)
La Fayette class (bought from France)

These are already available from another manufacturer, but it would be great to see GHQ quality ones in the future. So I put them on lower priority.
PLAN:
Type 052C Luyang-II class
Type 052B Luyang-I class
Type 054 Jiangkai-I class
Type 053H Jianghu-I class

Know that GHQ is no longer making new modern Micronauts, if they ever reconsider the market someday, I'll be the customer waiting in the line. Anyway, good to find this place to dream out something :)

Good suggestions so far. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, GHQ might profit by creating some generic merchants that could be used in many scenarios today:

Supertanker
Container ship
Large Freighter
Medium Freighter

Among the list of truly hopeless causes :

- Ocean Class LPH
- Albion Class LPD
- Bay Class LPD
- Type 45 Destroyer
- Type 23 Frigate
- Type 22 Batch 3 Frigate
- Fort Victoria Class AO
- Wave Class AO
- Helicopter Pack - Merlin, Chinook, Apache, Sea King, JSF
- Landing Pack - LCU.10, LCVP Mk.5, Griffon Hovercraft, Mexeflote

Probably about as likely as the Royal Navy getting any of these!

CG1 - the answer is 1/1250

Post by 30YRSGHQ »

CG-1,
The price is higher and the ships are bigger but Albatros makes most of these and they are excellent and painted models. I continue to use GHQ 1/2400 for most things, but I have switched my modern naval to 1/1250 where there is a huge range among many different producers. An Ocean, Albion or Bulwark can be had for around $100. Fort Victoria and Wave class for around $85 and DDG's and FFG's for $40 to $55. I have over 300 warships (mostly modern). They are great models with excellent painting, assembly and markings - not super suited for gaming, but it can work. GHQ is awesome, but our options for modern units are limited in 1/2400 scale.

With regards to variety of Modern Micronauts.

Post by exodusforever »

I have always been a vivid collector and naval fan. Seeing GHQ provided tabletop wargaming for modern naval warfare stood out and made me really happy.

Looking into this conversation quite a while ago, I cant help but also accept that GHQ might not expand their selection due to economic and sales reason.

And i do not deny that it is harder to play or visualise modern naval warfare compared to WW2.

But i thought I might help alll you guys in terms of getting variety for 1/2400 scale modern navies.

Took me along while to search but this website provides a variety of warships you can select from. Be it scale or WW2 and Modern era.
http://www.seekrieg.com/MiniaturesLinksPage.htm

But the best and only one that i have found that probably would be compatible with GHQ modern ships would be from http://vikingforge.datasquire.net/
The Viking Forge. It has Chinese , German and Japanese Modern Naval Ships.
From DD Lanzhou to DD Kongo. However, ordering from them can be quite inconvenient as they only accept money order or check. Of course, you could inquire from them and ask for help

Furthermore, they also sculpt merchant ships so i hope this will provide a more bwider range of ships for your modern naval tabletop game.

I realise Its been almost half a year since anyone posted. But i hope this helps.

Glad to be of help,

Give me feedback on how is the quality of the models.
It is unfortunate that i amnot from the US so it probably would be harder for me to get it.

Will have to talk to them on how to do a money order or check.

But yeah, If anyone got more tips and also knowledge on getting other type of 1/2400 scale ships. it would be awesome to share too.
