Bill,
What a mammoth and well thought out project this must have been! It looks great, it sounds like it played great, wish I could have been there to participate.
GHQ needs to post this one someplace special so people new to the hobby can see what its all about. A game like this is what will build the hobby.
Phenomenal job!!!

Thanks
To both of you, my humble thanks for the compliments. It was actually almost as much fun for me to plan and build as it was to play. I have run it twice now. Once was an Allied and once a German victory. It takes more than one to run such an affair and they all helped out in a unique way.

Set-Up
We started around 8:15A and finished up at 11:45A. The con started at 1:00P. To be fair, we had everything organized weeks in advance and all the commands were in seperate, labeled boxes. All the command bases were also labeled. We had four of the assistant GMs and myself to do the setup. We also had to fool around aboout 30 minutes getting the tables lined up correctly. All in all it worked out very well.

Cedar Creek at Historicon
Here are a few shots of my Cedar Creek Fire & Fury scenario from Historicon 2009. It was a US victory due to some really bad dice on the CS side. Still, it looked good.

Enjoy,
B

Enjoy,

Plantation
Hey Phil, yes, the plantation home I know is a Starfort model which you can buy from Langton in the UK or Battlefield Terrain Concepts in the US. The collapsed building is an old JR Miniatures model if I recall correctly.

Now, rather than an AAR, here is a BAR:
_______________
Date: 15 August, 1943
Time: 2100hrs
MOVEMENT ORDER
Immediately upon the end of Operation Citadel offensive activites, superior Soviet forces
pushed through German defensive positions in multiple locations.
The current line is ruptured, and can not be effectively re-established on the open
steppes. It is imperative that friendly forces withdraw in good order to better defensive
terrain.
Kampfgruppe Erickson is to move out immediately to take up positions to delay advancing
Red Army forces around the village of Vripoerchoyss.
INTELLIGENCE BRIEFING
Strong mobile units consisting of medium tanks, light, medium and heavy assault guns,
and motor infantry are advancing rapidly throughout the sector. No information is
available on the specific forces advancing on Vripoerchoyss.
All efforts have been made to provide up-to-the-minute information to use in preparing
the plan of defense.
An areal reconaissance mission to the area conducted at last light has provided these
photos:

Here is the village of Vripoerchoyss seen from the west.

This is a view of the village and the train stop, seen from the northwest. The crushed
stone railroad embankment is approximately 10ft high.

This is a view from the east. Soviet forces are expected to advance on the village from
this direction.
In addition a scout party made a foot reconaissance of the village just after sunset.

This is the approach to the village along the west road.

There are wheat and sunflower fields to the west of town. These might provide
concealment, but not cover, for infantry units. The sunflowers closer to the rail
embankment are tall enough to provide concealment for vehicles.

The village has seen combat in prior campaigns. Several of the outlying structures have
been destroyed, and some of the fields lie fallow. The majority of structures within the
village proper are still standing. Most are of flimsy wood or wood-and-mud
construction. The old village church is of stone construction, and appears sturdy. The
majority of villagers have been evacuated with retreating German forces. Any who may
have escaped the evacuation orders were not visible to the reconaissance troops.
Two small wooded copses to the east of the village were not reconoitered. It is not
known if they contain any refugee villagers, partisans, or Red Army reconaissance
troops.
ORDERS:

Major Erickson is ordered to delay Soviet forces as long as possible, and then withdraw
in good order.
That is all.

For our battle:
GERMAN FORCES:
So sorry, but all Panthers in the area were captured
when the regional repair depot was overrun.
Each of two players selects their command to be a
total of 5 platoons. EACH player selects from the following
list:
- Up to 3 platoons of infantry
- 1 infantry heavy weapons platoon
- 1 battery of Paks. Throw 1D6. 1-2 = 4 x Pak38; 3, 4,
5 = 4 x Pak40; 6 = 2 x Flak36.
MEDIUM TANKS
- Up to 2 platoons of medium tanks. Throw 1D6. 1,2 = Pz IIIJ (lange);
3,4 = PzIIIL or M (whatever you have models for); 5,6 = PzIVF2.
(1 die role determines all mediums allowed to that player.)
- 1 battery StuG / PzJgr. Throw 1D6. 1, 2 = Marder (II or III);
3, 4, 5 = StuG IIIG; 6 = Nashorn
-- OR --
HEAVY TANKS
Player may elect to forego medium tanks and PzJgrs. Instead, throw for SchwPzr support.
- Throw 1 die. 1 = Oops, didn't make it in time for the battle;
2, 3 = 1 platoon Brumbaer + 1 platoon Pz II; 4, 5, 6 = 1 platoon Tigers + 1 platoon Pz IIIN.
Selection of infantry and Pak forces takes place BEFORE throwing for SchwPzr support.
In addition each player gets 1 company HQ, with up to
two squads (infantry, comms gear), or 1 pzr (of the same type they have in their forces). Each also gets a total of 5 trucks of various sizes.
The Germans are directed to preserve their forces while slowing the Soviet advance as much as possible. They get victory points as follows:
For destroying Soviet motor vehicles:
- 2 points for every tank or SU destroyed.
- 1 point for every tank or SU immobilized.
- 1 point for every truck, halftrack, armored car, or other vehicle destroyed.
For surviving (either exiting the west side of the board, or remaining on board but close enough to the west edge to exit in 2 turns' movement):
- 3 points for every tank, StuG, or PzrJgr.
- 2 points for every infantry squad, support weapons squad, ATG, or transport.
SOVIETS:
Each player gets a total of 8 platoons, selected from:
- Up to 3 platoons of T-34 tanks
- 1 battery of SUs. Throw 1D6. 1, 2 = SU76; 3, 4, 5 = SU122; 6 = SU152.
- 1 recon platoon of halftracks (with SMG dismounts) and armored cars
- Up to 4 platoons of tankriders (SMG infantry)
- Up to 4 platoons of infantry mounted in trucks
- 1 infantry weapons platoon mounted in trucks
- 1 battery 4 x guns with trucks. Throw 1D6. 1, 2 = 45mm M42; 3, 4 = 57mm M43; 5, 6 = 76.2mm M42.
In addition - 1 tank company HQ of 1 tank + 1 armored car + 1 truck, or 1 infantry company HQ of 2 squads (infantry and commo gear) and 1 truck.
The Soviets are directed to advance. They get victory points as follows:
- 15 points for clearing and holding (at the end of the game) ALL buildings and ruins in the village.
- 3 points for every tank or SU that exits the west edge of the board
- 2 points for every armored car, halftrack, or ATG that exits the west edge of the board
- 1 point for every infantry squad, support squad, or truck that exits the west edge of the board.
Where a die role is called for, the player must commit to the line-item before dicing to see what he gets.

ACWBill- gotta ask about your terrain as it looks very good. Is a modular board system that you use? Otherwise, very well done...the battle looked cool as well
Mk1- I like your idea of rolling for additional support, as well as making a decision as too forgo the panzers and take a chance at getting a Tiger. Very cool idea.

I managed to get a microarmor game in finally. I really wanted to do a Poland 39 game in September and just squeaked it in earlier this week.

A real nail biter with almost equal forces. Most of the vehicles were abandoned after taking damage instead of brewing up. We used TFL's I Ain't Been Shot Mum rules and played a few hours over a couple of evenings.
