Luck.

Have you considered adding a vacuum pump to help remove the air bubbles?

Ray,

I've considered it but haven't been able to get it high enough on the priority list yet.

Well, it might be time to take another look at the priority list. I de-molded the ship and there are more air bubbles than I would like. Thankfully they are very tiny and shouldn't be a major concern in the casting process but until I can run a batch through this afternoon I won't be sure. Off to the Alumilite website.

Another fly in the ointment...

I did a test fit of the cranes from USS Curtiss and they are just too small. The general shape looks good but they need to be about 25% bigger to match the plans. Time to scour the net for anything that might work.

How about the cranes from HSN1 Slava? If those aren't big enough what about scratch building them? I mean if they are big it should be easier.

OK I went to look at Bobo. I think the Slava cranes would be big enough

Your decision of course

I want to add you've got a great looking model.

On the way to pick up my son at school I stopped by my local brick and mortar hobby shop (Game Towne in San Diego's Old Town area) and looked at the Slava they have on the wall. The crane is a little longer but not longer enough and the upright part is not large enough either. Looks like it will have to be scratch built or kit bashed from the Curtiss cranes if I can't find something usable on the internet.

While I try to solve my crane issue I've started my next "I've always wanted this but no one will ever make it" project a TAGOS ship. I'm going to make USNS VICTORIOUS and USNS IMPECCABLE. Lots of good US vs. PRC scenarios for these ships. Pictures tomorrow.

How will you be modeling the giant towed sonar array? ;-)

I think I'll just drag a 2 foot long string behind the ship.

Thought I rehash the Micronauts Thread with a few pics of My works for Modern Naval Warfare.

I present to you the Arleigh Burke Flight I

It's been quite awhile since I last saw some ships! So lets have some.. And even more rare would be modern naval ships.

Lovely photos. The depth of view, the water and it's subtle reflection, the background, and of course not to forget the nicely painted ships. Let those pictures come! :D

Exodusforever,

Great modern ship photos! :D Thanks for sharing.

Looking forward to seeing more of your ships.

So, what did you use for the water surface in your photos? It looks pretty good. Is that something you had to paint for the water color or did it come in blue?

Thanks!

Haha I wish I could make such water landscape.. But it was a pre-fabricated water piece I got from some model kit that included a water landscape.

Thanks for the Kind comments though :) And more will come :)

I'm with Gompel and ww2nav ... stunning photos! Great job! :D

Yikes and wow. The backdrop, the surface of the seascape, the depth and focus of the photos. All flawless. Then you add such beautifully modeled ships. Also well "orchestrated" in their placement. Really stunning work.

This forum produces better eye candy than any of the hobby magazines I used to buy so often. And I get to exchange messages with the hobby notables who produce these excellent works.

What a pleasure. :P
