I have never yet bothered to try to keep track of the game.

I sometimes have written orders or written radio messages as part of the scenario, and I don't mind at all referring back to those afterwards to help me reconstruct the battle. But I've never actually tried to write down notes on how the game progressed.

What I find is that I write the AAR to the pictures. Just try to take a couple of photos anytime anything interesting happens in the game. Then, look over the photos, write long-winded captions to them, and then fill-in however much of the story you remember between the pics.

Seems to work for me.

The problem I run into, especially when photographing a solo game for an AAR is that it tends to turn into a photo shoot instead of a game. I end up repositioning minis for a better camera shot and then the whole flow of the game is disrupted.

The other problem i have is I forget to take pictures near the end of a game. I agree that it interrupts the flow of the game. Perhaps get a proessional photographer to help out....

Those are pretty common problems with me also. I am running the charts and tables in my games and sometimes one of the units, so its easy to forget to snap some pics and even easier to snap some bad pics.
I tend to take as many pictures as possible and then delete half. Sometimes this means that keys parts of the game are not shown.
MY best pics in my games are usually taken by Hugewally, but he is only around my part of the country a few times a year.

Loved the AAR. Keep them coming.

On a side note: I remember that the Warsaw pact-NATO era is what got me into micro armor (way back when I was 13!) I remember making a list for Christmas one year and my mom asking: "What is this GHQ? Just who are you going to play with? You only have your bike for getting to games. How about a good C64 game so you can use it?"

Ah... those were the days. I wanted a social engagement not a lock and stock off the shelf enemy response.

Foxbat, what did you use for the base of your Terrain and what was the size overall?

Actually, some styrofoam boards on which I glued various shades of scatter material.
They've been cut into 60x60 cm squares, so the overall terrain is 120 x 180. I've made enough boards for a bigger terrain, but nearly all of my scenery's displayed here.

Hiya Argo!

Great post. Oooh, loverly pics. Looks like it was a great game!

Some of the modelling work that caught my eye:
- The buildings. Gompel is right, we want more more more pics of those buildings. I like the colors and the shading you've achieved on them. Nice stuff.
- The bases for both the buildings and the fields. I'd surely like to see some of the fences/walls up close, too.
- The patches of rough or rocky terrain. Very creative. Some ideas I can use shown there. Better than any of my approaches to rough ground.

Somebody on your side of the screen evidently has a fair bit of experience gaming, and has put together a very strong set of terrain skills.

Then, of course, there is the game itself. Sure would like to know what that was all about. So many of my fav's at play -- a combined-arms attack, with lots of infantry, a few transports, and JS-2s (yeah BABY!), going in against what looks like primarily infantry defense (oh goody, lot's of crunchies!), but then an evil looking Ju-88 shows up, only to get chased by a lend-lease P-39. Yowza, that's some kind of action going on!

Hope to see and read more about it.
