Varnish 'dipping' microarmor?

One technique I love for my 15 mm ancients is block painting the figs and then 'dipping' (heavily washing) them in polyurethane floor varnish to shade and seal in one step. Has anyone tried this with microarmor? I think that I will have to thin in out a little more to account for the finer detail, but it should work.

I have had a lot of luck using Army Painter's various 'dips' with my microarmor. It looks good, and it is a nice way to differentiate with the same paints. I actually did my UK armor with Dark tone (black) and Russian with Strong Tone (deep brown) and the same green background. They look visibly different and still quite good.

That is basically the same stuff, just without the Army Painter markup! in your experience, did it obscure any details? Did you have to thin the wash any?

I've found that the army painter stuff is actually more fluid and the pigment seems to be a smaller 'grain' Here are some strykers and a LAV-AT done with a commercial acrylic stain:

Here is a Brit w/ Dark Tone

And some other vehicles with Strong Tone
