It is really interesting having walked Chattanooga and being able to recognize the portions of the battlefield. My father and I are both Civil War history buffs. The reason why is my great-great-Grandfather served in the Union Army and was killed at Orchard Knob, and is buried in the Chattanooga Civil War Cemetery. I will show this to my father later. Thanks for a good memory!

Thanks PC, that is the one thing for which I strive when doing ACW terrain. So many people are familiar with the battlefields of the Civil War that major flaws are quickly spotted. In fact, during Historicon Peter Cozzens, author of "The Shipwreck of Their Hopes" came by several times asking questions and admiring the board. He recognized all the salient points immediately. That gave me a real sense of accomplishment, as I used his book as a major reference for the scenario. He signed my book, which I had on the table for gamers to look over. I am glad you were able to do the same.

I haven't posted for awhile but since its July, I had to do a Kursk game. I also wanted to use some German crewed T34s, so I decided on a scenario with the Das Reich division. Lots of armor-over 40 tanks and some nice rolling terrain.

Some of the fields are old model RR sheets. I've had them so long I can't remember the brand. The rougher looking ones are just pieces from the local JoAnn's, or Hancock's fabrics that have been sprayed painted in appropriate colors and had some static grass sprinkled about.

I got to see it at Historicon and it was truly impressive! You felt like you were really walking the battlefield.

Show Us Your Games

Hi Bill

That is a very impressive set-up you have there. I remember seeing some of your games at Historicon back in the days when I could make it and they were always in the upper echelons of the games I saw - both for visual appeal and historocity.

Hi Mark

Once again you have a very visually appealing game. I may have to get some of the fabric from my local JoAnn's to make some fields one of these days. Great work!
I ran my own El Alamein game this last Saturday using the Mein Panzer rules. We had a great time and Victor took some pictures. If I get everything together I will post another AAR. Thanks for posting yours.

Here is a report of the Cold War Commander game I played, pitting 1987 French vs East German. The French were attacking. Full game report on my blog :

My apologies for the terrible quality of some pics. It looks like I can't overcome the excitement of a wargame to make a proper job of photographing it.

Tried a new W W II MicroArmour: The Game scenario last night. It was a German hasty attack on a well defended Soviet village. Here is the scenario description I wrote for it:

A Hasty Attack in the vicinity of Belgorod, July 1943:
The Germans have broken through the first defensive echelon of the soviet front. While many of the attacking units are regrouping and resupplying after the battle, the commander has ordered the recon battalion and some friends to push ahead and see if they can exploit the opening. Hiwi’s claim the village of Yachmyenyi is said to lie ahead, up the road a couple of kilometers. The commander has ordered the group to seize this kleines dorf if they can.

Soviet Forces: (about 1000 points)
cohesion 14
1 rifle battalion
1 artillery battalion (2x 76, 1x 122)
part of an anti-tank artillery regiment (2x 76 ATG's)
19 light improved positions and 24 mine field markers (18 standard field and 6 dummies)

German Forces: (about 2000 points)
cohesion 16
Assault Gun Battalion GD
Aufklarungs Battalion GD
2nd Btln Fusilier Regt GD

Despite the funky ground board it was a summer scenario.
We needed more time to play. We only got 5 turns in before we had to pack up. It was a teaching scenario, to help a new player learn the ins and outs of artillery, minefields, close assault, etc.

I should have started the fusiliers closer but it worked out OK. I'd like to reprint my soviet mine markers with a khaki background, they won't be so glaringly bright next time.

I'm having a tough time getting my code to work here. Any one got any pointers on sourcing images from flickr and appearing in the post would be appreciated.

So let's see if this works:

You can hit the quote button, and see what I have entered to achieve the insertion of the image. The keys are:
1) Getting to the address of the photo. I do this by right-clicking on the picture, and going to properties. You are looking for a url that ends in .jpg.
2) Putting the url into your post with the proper Image string construction. Again, look to my posting to see it done correctly.

Ain't hard at all once you get the hang of it.

Hope that helps.
